Green is so your colour…

Being National Recycling Week and all, I’m brushing up on everything green with the help of these eco-chic beauty brands attempting to turn us from pink princesses into green goddesses.

Did you even know it was possible to manufacture a luscious lippy pot made completely from corn?

Cargo Cosmetics Plant Love Lipstick is the first biodegradable tube that’s made entirely of corn. Before you start thinking it’s more country bumpkin than super stylish, check out the pretty, hippy packaging…very flower child, I love it!

Judging by how well the Be Genki Serenity Face Mist went down with the trial team recently (read the rave reviews here) you’ll be even more thrilled to hear that all of the brand’s packaging is 100 per cent recyclable and biodegradable. Even the boxes are coated in a biodegradable film called clarifoil, which is manufactured using cellulose, a natural and renewal resource. You don’t need to understand, you just need to be aware!

Aveda is the first beauty company to manufacture entirely through wind power (please tell me I’m not the only one with Patrick Swayze in my head?). Also, its recent Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Vintage Clove Shampoo cap is made from 100 per cent post consumer recycled caps. Vintage chic indeed.

Lush Shampoo Bars come naked. Saucy. The unpackaged Shampoo Bar lasts as long as three bottles of 250g liquid shampoo, so you’re single-handedly helping to reduce the environmental cost of producing plastic packaging. They also don’t take up nearly as much space in your bathroom so your man will be pleased.

Go green ladies. Woohoo.

What are you doing to honour of National Recycling Week?

p.s. this is your last chance to have a nosey at all things girlie in our Girls just wanna have fun… issue. But you will need your nose with you tomorrow for the new issue. That’s the only cryptic clue you’re getting: you’ll just have to swing by tomorrow!
