Mauve, violet, lavender, wine, plum, purple, lilac, amethyst – no I’m not doing a bizarre rendition of Joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat, just spouting out the names that will soon be topping your make-up list.I know I said last week that black was back, but surely you’ve realised us beauty peeps are a fickle bunch by now, this week it’s all about violet. It makes sense really – the purple pack can see you through every season fashionably: mauve equals perfect winter wonderland style, lilac accentuates long, golden limbs come summertime (hey, this is my story and my limbs can be as long, golden and fictional as they like), plum’s a good autumn hue and lavender can easily slot into spring. And if you needed anymore convincing, Mrs Cruise (trendsetter that she now is) was seen sporting the look at the New York premiere for Tom’s latest flick Valkyrie earlier in the week.
My top purple picks:
Inika Mineral Cosmetics Limited Edition Eyeshadow in Razzle – part of the Frolic collection and frolicking it makes me feel like. The super jazzy hue is perfect for a night on the tiles – disco inferno style.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Gloss in Lilac Sugar – perfect for that subtle hint of sparkling amethyst across your pout. Team with a quick slick of mascara and you’ve got effortless elegance all tied up.
Face of Australia Eye Definer Pencil in Purple – this cheap and cheerful cushion-tipped pencil allows for easy smudging, ideal for creating sexy, smouldering peepers with pretty plum.
Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Eye Shadow in Lilac Cloud – this shimmering, crease-proof eyeshadow has a gorgeous a silky finish. The air-whipped formula creates a unique, air-soft feel and is perfect for sheer or heavy coverage.
Mavala Switzerland Polish in Ginza – part of the Glam Attitude collection, the chic purple haze has buckets of both glamness and attitude. Perfect for tootsies whether they’re in thongs or stilletos.
Will you be coming over to the purple side anytime soon?
