On trial: Four volumising mascaras

On trial:Blinc Cosmetics Mascara, $40
Tester: Laina
The Verdict: I love the way this mascara makes my lashes longer, thicker and defined, without the flecks that some volumising mascaras leave on the tips of your lashes. It forms tiny, water resistant tubes around the individual lashes that slide right off when you wet your fingers. As a contact lens wearer, I think this is great because I don’t get flakes in my eye during the day and don’t have to irritate my eyes with make-up remover.

On trial:Napoleon Perdis Peep Show Madame Fantasia, $30
Tester: Anna M
The Verdict:  I’m loving this mascara. I definitely think it’s worth the money ($30 isn’t too expensive for a decent mascara). The brush is very soft, the colour goes on well and it doesn’t clog, even though it’s brand new. I’ve had to wipe off a bit of excess a couple of times, but that’s something that I often find with a really new mascara.
The colour is very black (maybe a bit too dark for me because I’m very fair) but it does seem to work at making lashes fatter.

On trial:Maybelline XXL Volume & Length Microfiber Mascara, $18.65
Tester: Lisa B
The Verdict: I absolutely love it! This mascara comes in two parts: a lengthening primer that you put on first and a volumising mascara that goes on top. As I brushed on the primer, I could actually see the microfibre attach itself to the end of my lashes, adding extra length. Then I used the volumising mascara, which made my lashes look thick and extra long. I can’t stop batting them!

On trial: Bonne Bell Eye Style Mascara, $8.95
Tester: Tracey, beautyheaven Editor
The Verdict: Mascara is one of my daily essentials and I’m a bit of a nazi about it – one clump and it’s a goner, a single smudge and it’s in the bin. This one gets my thumbs up because it’s super affordable (v. important when you go through as much of it as I do!) but does a good job. The wand feels a bit stubby in the hand, but it disperses colour evenly and separates lashes properly as it goes. One coat is fine for daytime, but for real volume, you need a second coat.
