Oh to be a trendsetter…

Oh to be a trendsetter…

There’ll be no tooting of horns here (toot, toot!) but I have been known to start a trend or two in my time. Like the turban for example. Okay so I know that technically Carrie Bradshaw started that, but I was one of the first to bring it home to our shores…or maybe just to my group of friends…

So for this year’s annual New Year’s trip, I decided to pull out the big beauty guns and showcase a few trends I knew my friends would love. For New Year’s Eve I chose to go for a mostly nude complexion and sported my current favourite hue (lilac) under my eyes with fake lashes – check out the photo! Haven’t seen the run-down of how this is done? Check it out here…

For my hair, I wanted to stay away from classic curls, because I’ve done that so many times, and was desperate for something new. So I opted for a fishtail braid that fell over my left shoulder, which I instantly loved (and wore on a few other nights out too!). I was a little bit worried about it looking too tight and severe on me, so I added a little bit of height to the crown so it wasn’t lying flat over my head. I highly recommend Goldwell Styling Volume Power Whip mousse for help with getting a bit of lift. The result was a pretty balayaged braid that was totally fresh and feminine. Want the how-to? Watch it here…

But the best part? Over the following evenings I caught quite a few of my girlfriends experimenting with a lilac line under their eyes, and I even saw a few more fishtail braids when I was out and about too! I think I’ve started something here…
