Beauty buzz

Beauty buzz

As a beauty journalist, you hear (and say) a lot of buzz words. Today I heard a new one I had to share: duffer proof. Yes, it means the same as fool proof but the fact that it was said in all seriousness by one of Australia’s leading cosmetics communicators about a new range that’s enticingly natural and super easy to use, made me smile. Cosmetics should be fun after all.

I think we’ve all done things with make-up that have made us feel like complete duffers before. Like wearing the wrong shade of foundation and not realising until you catch sight of your jaw in the rear vision mirror on the way to work, or thinking you’ve politely powdered your nose at your desk only to stand up and realise your black pencil skirt is sprinkled with sandy flecks.

I’m a huge advocate of duffer proof make-up since I often find myself face painting in the back of taxis. In the dark. In stop, start traffic. While checking my BlackBerry. And in the company of one or two fellow beauty eds. As if it’s not tricky enough to do your make-up neatly and accurately in a moving cab, you’re expected to converse knowledgeably about what the other passengers may or may not be applying to their faces as well.

That’s why I’m attempting to duffer proof my make-up bag. It’s out with anything that comes with a fiddly little brush that wants to jump out of the case at every opportunity and in with multi-purpose products that don’t require absolute precision to apply. I’m even liking cream-to-powder cheek and eye colours I can smear on with my little finger.

And for that reason I’m adding make-up removing wipes to clean hands before and after make-up application. Because I’d be a duffer not to.

How have you duffer-proofed your make-up bag?
