Meghan Markle had to follow these royal beauty rules

A lot has happened since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were married in their Royal Wedding back in May 2018. And it seems as though all the tea about their life in one of the world’s most famous families is about to be spilled in the most anticipated interview of the year.

But prior to leaving the UK, baby number two on the way and well, Oprah, all we ever wanted Meghan to dish on was her beauty look. Every morsel of makeup, skin care or hair information we could get our hands on was golden.

At the time of her and Prince Harry’s nuptials, her Royal Wedding makeup artist (and friend) Daniel Martin spoke to People about how Meghan does her own makeup. “She’s gotten more comfortable doing her own makeup. She loves makeup and she’s good at it!” Martin shared. “She’s been doing her makeup herself. She’s not fussy — she’s just trying to get it on and get out the door.”

“She likes a stronger eye, her brow is a lot more defined now,” Daniel told People. “But it’s still her. If anything, she’s going to experiment with different tones, and now that she’s more tan she’ll use warmer colors. But she doesn’t stray too far from her technique, she’s very formulaic with her routine.”

And if you (like us) are still trying to get her whole fresh-faced dewy look down pat, at least there’s one thing you’ll never have to worry about: a bold lip. Yep, no power pouts here. “The one time she did a red lip, she just didn’t feel comfortable in it. She likes to talk and she’s not a fussy person, so she doesn’t want to have to worry about anything,” Daniel said.

Back then, Meghans dislike for a bold lip was very convenient, as Harper’s Bazaar reports that it’s against protocol for Royals to go brighter than a nude or pink lipstick.

And that wasn’t the only royal beauty rule she had to follow…

Makeup

If look to Duchess Catherine as an example, you’ll see she never really strays from natural makeup. Sure, evening events require a little more oomph – but during the day it’s light eye makeup and natural foundation all the way.

Supposedly, lip gloss is also frowned upon for Royals to flaunt because (as we are all painfully aware) your hair gets easily stuck in the gloss. However, Meghan did don a glossy pout before attending Christmas Lunch at Buckingham Palace in 2017.

Hair

Beauty is all about looking tidy and put-together when you’re a royal so messy buns are not exactly traditional. But Meghan bucked the trend there too. She rocked many a messy bun during her Royal duties – she even had her locks pulled into a loose bun at the Royal Wedding!

Nails

Bright nail polish is also not appropriate according to Queen Elizabeth (her favourite polish is essie’s Ballet Slippers). And ever since Meghan got married, she’s only been seen with neat and neutral shades of nail polish.

Want to rock some neutral nails? beautyheaven loves Sally Hansen Miracle Gel® Adventure Land Collection in Sheer Happiness and OPI Infinite Shine Soft Shades polish in Beyond The Pale Pink.

  1. Having been an actor Megan already knows how to present her best face. I could not handle not having my nails painted a bright red. Natural colour does nothing for me as I do love my nails.

  2. For every occasion there is a dress code. I will not go to the restaurant or some reception in my skimpy see trough beach dress with glitter in my hair. For example. There are "rules" for all of us and that is cool.

  3. Her make up and dress is polished but I have had enough of her and Harry. She knew what she was getting into and now she and Harry are crying about not wanting attention, then running after it at the same time…

  4. I am not a fan of hers. I am so over hearing about these two – you know, the people who hated the media intrusion in their lives? The ones that court the media now? Ha!

  5. Like most people I watched "the interview", I was not really impressed Megan is an actress and there were definitely times when she was definitely acting. I am not sure what or who to believe, I do recall early on when they left the UK they were told that they would not get any security so why whinge now. I think the media are playing to Megans tune.
