What's the deal with fibre lash mascara?

By now you may have heard about fibre lash mascaras. And if you haven’t already tried one, you’d be forgiven for not knowing exactly how they differ from regular mascaras.
With regular mascara, you’re coating your lashes with a liquid formula usually made up of pigment, oils, guanine, and waxes. The formula of a fibre lash mascara actually contains tiny little fibres (they kind of look like small hairs) that you brush on to your lashes to give them a more exaggerated appearance – almost as if you’re wearing false lashes. The key to applying most fibre lash mascaras is focusing on applying the product on the ends of your lashes to give them extra length and volume.
Basically, it’s like mascara and false lashes got together and had a lengthening, volumising, and thickening baby.
Sound right up your alley? Then one of these may be just what you need…
ModelCo FIBRE LASH – Achieving a false-lash effect requires a two-product process when using ModelCo. First you apply the extension mascara, then the lash fibres, then the extension mascara again. The first layer helps the lash fibres adhere to your lash follicles and the last coat secures the fibres in place. Results so good even Dannii Minogue swears by it!
freezeframe® Instant Lash Extreme – The water-resistant formula of this mascara must be applied on to clean, dry lashes to lengthen and thicken them. First, focus on the lash tips to extend your lashes, then sweep upwards from the root of your lashes to lock in the extensions and thickening fibres. And now you’re done: thicker, longer lashes for up to 24 hours!
Silk Oil of Morocco Fibre Lash Mascara – Organic green tea natural fibres help thicken and lengthen your natural lashes by 150 per cent. The kit comes with two wands – a gel wand and a fibre wand. After applying the gel, coat your eyelashes from root to tip with the fibres (you can build the volume by applying multiple coats), and then set it by applying another coat of the gel. And it’s safe to use for contact lens wearers, too!
Mirénesse Lash Transplant Lengthening – This little kit comes with three products: a transparent gel, silky-white lash fibres, and a comb. Just as with some of the other lash fibre kits mentioned above, you start by coating your lashes with the gel. Then you follow with the white lash fibres, and finish with a coat of the gel. The comb should be used at the end to perfect your new lashes. Oh, don’t worry about your eyelashes looking a bit white – the gel will coat them in a natural-looking colour.
Studio Lash Fibre Lash Mascara, $64.95, www.fibrelashmascara.com.au – The Studio Lash kit helps you achieve longer, thicker lashes in just 60 seconds! If you want a more dramatic effect, follow this routine: lengthening mascara, extending fibres, lengthening mascara, extending fibres, lengthening mascara. Always start and end with the lengthening mascara and never double coat the extending fibres without a lengthening mascara in between. Too easy!
Have you tried a fibre lash mascara before? What do you do to increase the length and volume of your lashes?

If I really want longer lashes, think I'd prefer to use false eyelashes than using fibre lash mascara - not sure of what nasty products are in these, and the thought of getting them in my eye sounds very uncomfortable.

Haha I thought all mascaras did that! I read it in a Wiki article about mascara when I was little and that was my assumption since.. although now that you mention it, I don't really get a crazy lengthening effect from my normal mascaras! I recall trying a fibre one once a long time ago though, and the effect was amazing!

I haven't tried these yet but do have the freezeframe ® Instant Lash Extreme. Must give it a go soon as I would love thicker, longer lashes. I'm not too fussed though as I go most days without mascara but it's nice to wear it occasionally.

I use Model Co and it works really well and on those days that i use it you can see a real visible differece and i am lucky that i have fairly long lashes and with the use of Model Co it really does curl them and add alot more volume and i think it looks really great. The only thing is if i wear glasses when i have used it my lashes touch the lenses but its a small price to pay for great lashes

I had wondered how the fibre lash mascara worked, I tint my eye lashes to emphasise them.

The freeze frame gives me different results every time I use it and takes a bit of getting used to avoiding fibers getting into my eyes. But actually do lengthen my lashes.

Up to 24 hours for a mascara is pretty extreme indeed.

i've tried the asian fibre lash- the fairydrops one and it's my absolute favourite mascara now! I can't wait to try the Marjolica Marjorca one too. Is fibre lash mascara the same as tube mascara? So many new types!

I haven't tried one of these and based on what some of the other beauties are saying I probably won't bother. I like the mascara that comes with a primer.

I have the Freezeframe Instant Lash Extreme and I absolutely love it. It does have a slight tendency to smudge a little though.

Do the fibres break off? I use to use one of the double ended mascara's tha thad like a base coat thing and the little bits of extensions would just break off and go iin my eyes.
