What's the deal with fibre lash mascara?

By now you may have heard about fibre lash mascaras. And if you haven’t already tried one, you’d be forgiven for not knowing exactly how they differ from regular mascaras.
With regular mascara, you’re coating your lashes with a liquid formula usually made up of pigment, oils, guanine, and waxes. The formula of a fibre lash mascara actually contains tiny little fibres (they kind of look like small hairs) that you brush on to your lashes to give them a more exaggerated appearance – almost as if you’re wearing false lashes. The key to applying most fibre lash mascaras is focusing on applying the product on the ends of your lashes to give them extra length and volume.
Basically, it’s like mascara and false lashes got together and had a lengthening, volumising, and thickening baby.
Sound right up your alley? Then one of these may be just what you need…
ModelCo FIBRE LASH – Achieving a false-lash effect requires a two-product process when using ModelCo. First you apply the extension mascara, then the lash fibres, then the extension mascara again. The first layer helps the lash fibres adhere to your lash follicles and the last coat secures the fibres in place. Results so good even Dannii Minogue swears by it!
freezeframe® Instant Lash Extreme – The water-resistant formula of this mascara must be applied on to clean, dry lashes to lengthen and thicken them. First, focus on the lash tips to extend your lashes, then sweep upwards from the root of your lashes to lock in the extensions and thickening fibres. And now you’re done: thicker, longer lashes for up to 24 hours!
Silk Oil of Morocco Fibre Lash Mascara – Organic green tea natural fibres help thicken and lengthen your natural lashes by 150 per cent. The kit comes with two wands – a gel wand and a fibre wand. After applying the gel, coat your eyelashes from root to tip with the fibres (you can build the volume by applying multiple coats), and then set it by applying another coat of the gel. And it’s safe to use for contact lens wearers, too!
Mirénesse Lash Transplant Lengthening – This little kit comes with three products: a transparent gel, silky-white lash fibres, and a comb. Just as with some of the other lash fibre kits mentioned above, you start by coating your lashes with the gel. Then you follow with the white lash fibres, and finish with a coat of the gel. The comb should be used at the end to perfect your new lashes. Oh, don’t worry about your eyelashes looking a bit white – the gel will coat them in a natural-looking colour.
Studio Lash Fibre Lash Mascara, $64.95, www.fibrelashmascara.com.au – The Studio Lash kit helps you achieve longer, thicker lashes in just 60 seconds! If you want a more dramatic effect, follow this routine: lengthening mascara, extending fibres, lengthening mascara, extending fibres, lengthening mascara. Always start and end with the lengthening mascara and never double coat the extending fibres without a lengthening mascara in between. Too easy!

Maybe I'll give fibres a try! My lashes are stubbornly short and straight so these sound great

I've never used a fibre lash mascara, but my lashes are already long so I don't need to add to their length.

It sounds great but do the little fibres make your eyelashes look strange and fluffy? I am imagining little fluffy bits on your lashes poking out at all different angles!

I use the ModelCo one. It's OK but not brilliant. I just bought the Maybelline Illegal Length Fibre Extension mascara so I'll see if that's any better!

My brothers gf bought me the silk fibre lash mascara (she's a beautician and knew I'd been searching for a mascara that was ACTUALLY good) and I have to say I just LOVE IT! The mascara is great on its own, the fibres take some getting used to but I am never going back, I can glam up to the extent I want for the day by putting on more fibres, I just love it! Totally worth the money.

I'm a huge fan of Cherry Blooms Brush on Fibre Lash Extensions! They're amazing! So easy to use, they stay on all day and I can get them off if I want to! So much better than some of the other stuff I've used in the past. Totally recommend!

Really interested in using one of these because I'm so bad with falsies! Usually I just pile on different mascaras on a night out but it does clump and flake

I can't really use fibre mascara because I wear contacts and if any of the fibres fall into my eyes they get under my contacts and irritate my eyes.

I haven't tried one - I'd be scared the fibres would flake off and fall in my eye.

I use the maybelline one but not often, it can drop into your eye and that's bad....they are really good though once in a while, you can change the shape of your lashes by concentrating on the outer lashes only or do them all, but you have to be careful, because once they get into your eye it's all over...I'm still lucky at my age that when I use normal mascara my lashes are long enough to touch my sunnies when I wear them, so I would only use this on special occasions.

I tried the ModelCo one and the fibres feel so odd! My lashes did look longer and it actually does work amazingly but the fibres just seemed to tickle my eyes a bit.

Up to 24 hours for a mascara is pretty extreme indeed.

I have had this mascara for awhile after being introduced by my girlfriend who bought one from ebay. it is in the leopard print small box with the mascara as well as the fibre. I love it and i think it is the safest alternative
