From DIY methods to hacks you can try out with your favourite Maybelline mascara, below are the bh team’s top tips. Pair our wisdom with an eyelash growth serum and you’ll be well on your way to your dream eyelashes.

And if all else fails, falsies have got your back. God bless ’em!

5 ways to make your eyelashes longer

#1 A DIY tint

“The tips of my eyelashes are blonde so a DIY tint instantly makes them look longer. I usually do it when I’m heading on holiday or don’t want to wear mascara as much. I use the 1000HOUR Brush-In Lash & Brow Dye Kit ($24.99 at 1000hour.com.au) and it’s SO EASY. I’ll tint my brows at the same time too, which is super convenient. If you wanted to go the professional route, I’d highly recommend a lash lift and tint. The results are incredible and allow you to avoid the upkeep of extensions.” – Samantha McMeekin, beautyheaven’s Content Producer.

#2 The spoolie mascara hack

“Lately I’ve been using the spoolie mascara hack (thank you TikTok) for when I want an ultra-lush look. Side note: I use the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Mascara ($35 at Sephora) and it’s definitely worth the hype. I apply it from the middle to the tip of my lashes, then take a clean spoolie and brush my lashes from root to tip to lift and lengthen. Then I add another coat of mascara, this time focusing on the base of my lashes to add volume and definition. It’s so simple but it makes SO much difference! I’ve also been using the M.A.C Cosmetics Lash Dry Shampoo Mascara Refresher ($48 at M.A.C Cosmetics) for an instant refresh when I just can’t be bothered to reapply mascara before going out. And let me tell you, M.A.C wasn’t playing when they said this formula will intensify your lashes. Obsessed!” – Georgia Nelson, beautyheaven’s Beauty & Social Editor

#3 A growth serum-infused mascara

“I go through phases of being really happy with my lashes and being frustrated with their wild ways. For some reason, they like to grow at different times. And subsequently, I’m left with eyelashes of varied lengths that seem to shoot off in every possible direction. I’ve tried to tame them and promote growth by regularly using an eyelash curler and a lash growth serum-infused mascara. I’m currently using the Lash Therapy Australia Growth Serum Mascara (was $44.95 now $39.95 at Lash Therapy Australia). I’m keeping a close eye on whether its thickening, darkening, curling and growth claims are true, but I’m happy enough with the tubing formula alone. It’s relatively fluid in texture and coats each lash easily. Once it dries down, my lashes are perfect until I wash them off; it doesn’t ever smudge, it extends the length of my lashes and holds a curl really well too. Fingers crossed it’s improving the health of my lashes while it’s at it.” – Briar Clark, beautyheaven’s Content Producer

#4 An eyelash curler

“I use an eyelash curler religiously. It might be basic but it works. While I don’t do the full-throttle eyeball-grazing method like Alix Earle, I sure get close. I’ve had the same eyelash curler my mum gave me when I was 15 and it’s so worn down that there’s no way to identify a brand name. All I know is it does what it’s meant to — AKA lifts and curls my blonde, straight lashes in seconds. You’re crazy if you aren’t using one before applying your mascara. Certified crazy!” – Ruby Cotton, beautyheaven’s Content Producer

#5 Castor oil

“I’ve always hit my lashes with the ‘you’re not good enough’ speech, generally relying on extensions and falsies to fill and ‘fluff’ them up. But during the ‘lash detox’ I’m committing to this year, I’m doing my damnedest to get them looking longer. Is it too much to ask that they actually be visible over the top of my eyeliner?! I think not! I’m definitely still in the ‘testing’ phase for now, but I’ve been spoolie-ing a quick coating of caster oil through them before bed each night. No Bambi-eyed results as of yet, but hey, good things (AKA eyelashes with some length, lift and body to them) take time, right?” – Delaney Loane, beautyheaven’s Editor.

Follow these five tips and you’ll be well on your way to full, fluffy lashes. But hey, if you’re not seeing the results you want in a timely manner, allow the Glam By Manicare Lift & Curl lashes Tilly (Natural) ($9.99 at Chemist Warehouse) to support your lashes (literally) on their journey. These fluffy lashes are designed to seamlessly blend with your natural ones (giving your eyes a bit more definition while you do all this lash-boosting work in the background…)

  1. Never used eye lash serum but I heard a lot about it . Might give it a try the only problem is I have to apply it daily and I should be patient until I start seeing results . It takes a while to start seeing visible results (that’s my friends said about it after trying it)

  2. I like using castor oil for hair growth but sometimes it gets in my eyes so decided to try something new. dermal MD eyelash growth serum felt very lightweight, didn’t sting and made my lashes feel sift & moisturized.I liked it more then castor oil💕

  3. Tinting with 1000Hr definitely makes them appear longer.

I’ve tried eyelash serum: my lashes only grew a little longer, but there looked to be more of them.

I’m often in too much of a rush to use my curler, but it makes a difference, too.
