Flex’s Faves: FlexMami shares all her beauty must-haves

FlexMami is a multihyphenate in it’s truest form. The DJ-influencer-presenter-entrepreneur-author-podcaster-chicken salt connoisseur wears a lot of hats, and serves up game-changing looks while she’s at it.

An undeniable style icon, her level of confidence and self-assuredness is contageous and leaves you feeling like you can do anything you want, too.

While Flex is truly one of a kind, and therefore entirely inimitable, one thing we can (hopefully) imitate is her incredible beauty looks. Thankfully, she let us in on a few of her secrets and favourite products to help us get the look.

Have you always been interested in beauty?

“Yes, to varying degrees. When I was in high school, I was obsessed with winged liner. It was the easiest way to visually communicate that I was ‘alternative’ and good at makeup.”

What’s your first beauty memory?

“Ooh, probably around age 8 or 9. I distinctly remember my Mum calling me into the bathroom where the natural light was to check if her foundation matched her skin tone.”

With a busy lifestyle, what are your top tips for saving time on beauty?

We for one are always looking for ways to cut time from our beauty routine, and Flex’s tip is to “stick to the products that will take the least time and make the most impact. For me, that’s concealer and contour.”

What’s a beauty trick you wish you’d known earlier?

“Getting my brows professionally waxed instead of hacking at them at home. It really makes a difference.”

Do you tend to stick to the same products or do you like to switch it up?

Instead of switching products willy-nilly, Flex is consistent with what she uses. She says, “same products. I prefer to finish what I start using.”

As a frequent traveller, what products do you bring with you on every trip?

People who travel a lot are usually masters of the ‘essentials only’ beauty edit, and Flex is no exception.

Her favourite travel companions are:

What is your in-flight beauty routine?

We love this tip, because it won’t cost you a cent – “sleep the whole flight and pray I don’t wake up crusty”.

What has been your biggest beauty regret?

“Wearing foundation. It just doesn’t do anything great for my skin.”

What does a self-care evening look like for you?

“Copious amounts of Youtube, comfort food and a DIY project.”

You’re very open about your appreciation of vibrators and sex toys, what is your advice for someone who wants to try one but is nervous?

“The insecurity of not trying something and the shame that develops from not being adventurous is much harder to deal with then just biting the bullet and investing in your own pleasure. You have nothing to lose.”

One of your most admired traits is your confidence in all that you do, what would be some of your advice for women who want to be more sure of themselves but aren’t sure where to start?

Flex’s tip strays away from the mantra of ‘fake it till you make it’, and imparts the importance of genuinely liking youself.

“Start with actually learning to like yourself, instead of trying to appear more confident. Interrogate the things that you appreciate about yourself and focus on that.”

Do you see a beauty collaboration in your future?

“Absolutely!”. Now that’s a collab we’ll be getting around.

If not beauty, do you have anything else exciting launching soon?

Good news for fans of Flex’s original critial thinking card game, ReFlex, there’s another one one the way. “A new edition of my self develoment card game called ReFlex 2.0. The first edition was a hit success, and was the fastest-selling online product on Sportsgirl’s website.”

If you want to make sure you grab one before it (inevetably) sells out  the card game is due to be released on the 20th of February 2020, so jot that down in your calander.

  1. Never heard of her, but my first beauty memory is of my mom’s bottle of Chanel No5. I was a toddler when I first noticed it, but even then I knew it was something special and it remains a favourite still.

  2. First beauty memory? Looking trough my sis' cosmetics bag and wondering….wtheck was all that (we are only 2 year difference , still took me 2 decades later to start using some stuff myself hhahah)

  3. I've heard of her before & I too like the fact that she finishes something before starting something else. Unless I'm not getting along with the product for whatever reason, I too do the same thing. I like her vibe re: learning to like yourself first. That's a journey I've been undertaking (or attempting to undertake) for some time.

  4. I've never heard of her but my first beauty memory is when I went into my Mum's bathroom, used her make-up to give myself literally a massive clown face and got busted by Dad who said, "Does your mother know you've been using her make-up?". I was so embarrassed but I did a really good clown face!

  5. I too have not heard of her before this article. I like some of her advice. I'm not keen on some of her eye looks but I guess that's what gets attention.

  6. My first beauty memory was when I was about 5 (I know I was that young because we moved to another town shortly thereafter).

I can still picture my mum at around 4.30-5.00pm every weekday afternoon changing into a clean dress, fixing her hair, spraying on perfume and applying lipstick ready for dad to arrive home from work. At this stage mum had four children under 6 and one on the way. Actually, I have loads of wonderful memories growing up in that particular house.

  7. I always remember a school friend, when i went to her home, every day before dinner, she would go into the bathroom and completely redo her whole face – skincare and makeup, and this was at 13. She did it every night just to sit at the dinner table

  8. My earliest beauty memory is an el-cheapo shampoo and conditioner with an overpowering green apple scent. It was the main shampoo and conditioner that Mum bought for a very long time.

  9. My first beauty memory was probably my Mum's black liquid eyeliner. It was the first cosmetic I started wearing at about 12. Proper liquid eyeliner in a tube, with a tiny brush – not the felt tips you often get nowadays.

  10. It was the help of Dr Joe that helped me bring back my lost lover who left me for 2 months without saying goodbye, I miss him so much cause he was my first boyfriend ever and i hate to be called an ex lover and could not bear the pain of the heartbreak, I tried all mean i could to get him back and even search on google on how to get your lover back it was then i read a testimony of a lady who got her husband back with the spell of Dr,Joe who is very powerful and have the gift to reunite broken homes, marriages, relationships, etc. I immediately copied out his contact info which was (dr.joeblessed@gmail.com)  i mailed all my complains to him and told him how depressed i was and i was ready to do anything just to have him back, Today am a happy woman because his spell work and it took me just 48 hours to see results and i was very happy when my man came back home begging in tears, once again thanks to Dr, Joe for his powerful spell that brought back my lover as we are now living happily ever after since then Joe helped me, and am very happy to share the good news all over the website EMAIL: (dr.joeblessed@gmail.com) Phone number/WhatsApp   +234 905 331 7334 Website: drjoeblessed.com REGARDS
