100 years old and looking as good as ever
We have no doubt that at some point in your life, you’ve owned a Maybelline New York product. And almost every girl has tried the iconic Great Lash Mascara at least once. It’s one of the beauty brands that is recognisable to women the world over (and probably a few men, too)
Well, this year marks Maybelline’s 100th birthday, so to celebrate, we thought we’d take a wander down memory lane and check out some of the brand’s old ad campaigns.
Maybelline Lash-Brow-Ine, a lash and brow beautifier, was the very first Maybelline product released by Thomas L. Williams, who was inspired by his sister, Mabel
Fun fact: Maybelline is a combination of Mabel and Vaseline and is copyrighted.
Maybelline introduces its first mass-market automatic mascara, Magic Mascara, and becomes the first cosmetic brand to advertise on TV.
Maybelline Great Lash hits shelves, featuring a breakthrough formula that conditions lashes as it thickens them. The iconic green and pink packaging has been there from the very beginning!
Fun fact: By 2000, one tube of Great Lash was sold every 1.2 seconds.
The famous motto “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline” makes its debut.
Maybelline New York Falsies Mascara becomes the world’s number one mascara, while Maybelline New York SuperStay Better Skin Concealer, Color Sensational Color Elixir, and Volum’ Express Colossal Smoky Eyes Mascara all take home awards in the beautyheaven Glosscar Awards (what? We think this is very historically significant…)
