The best and worst 80s hair and makeup trends

80s hair and makeup was all about the big and bold. And if you thought it was over, think again! 80s beauty is very much on its way back. Don’t believe us? Take one look at a Fashion Week runway, beauty influencers on Instagram or even Netflix (GLOW and Stranger Things anyone?) and you’ll see that the extra 80s are back.

We’re taking a look back at the best and worst 80s hair and makeup trends. Click through the gallery below to see if you rocked any of these ‘more is more’ looks back in the 80s (or maybe you’re even rocking them now!).

Draped Blush

Before contouring came into vogue, blush was the favoured way to accentuate your cheekbones. Contouring with blush is called draping and we LOVE it. To recreate this 80s glow sweep blush in a C-like shape from your temple to your cheekbones.

Need a new blush? beautyheaven loves L’Oréal Paris Blush Sculpt and ModelCo Blush 2-in-1 Cheek Powder and Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Radiance Blush.

Heavy eyeliner

Heavy and smudged eyeliner was huge in the 80s. But because more was more in the 80s it could be black but also neon colours. Get the look with Maybelline Color Show Crayon Kohl Liner, e.l.f. cosmetics Studio Cream Eyeliner and Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush.

Bright neon eyeshadow

The only thing to pair your heavy eyeliner with? Neon eyeshadow of course. Your leotard and legwarmers were already fluoro, so why not?! The brighter (and closer to the brow) your eyeshadow was, the better.

Need some neon? beautyheaven loves Chi Chi Glamorous O.M.F.G  Eye Shadow Collection and M.A.C Eye Shadow.

Faux beauty spots

The faux beauty spot trend was trending long before the 80s (hello Marilyn Monroe), but with 80s icons like Madonna sporting the spot, it came back into fashion – and quick. Try dotting on a faux beauty spot with a waterproof eyeliner or brush that you’ve dipped into a waterproof mascara.

beautyheaven loves Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara, Australis Cosmetics Eyegasm Waterproof Mascara and Barry M Bold Waterproof Mascara.

Bushy brows

Big, bold and bushy brows were very fashionable in the 80s. To fake fuller brows, beautyheaven loves Chi Chi Fibre Brow and Ardell Brow Building Fiber Gel.

Bold lips

Sensing a pattern here? The 80s saw everything in beauty taken to the extreme so you better believe your pout was also standing out. Neon, frosted pink or deep, bold (likely clashing) colours were hot in the 80s.

beautyheaven loves Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick in Neon Azalea and M.A.C Lipstick Frost in Angel.
