The makeup brush that sold out in 6 minutes

From mermaid-inspired makeup looks and hairstyles to aquarium nails, if it’s h20-related, it’s trending in beauty. Which might explain why the internet just lost it over these mermaid makeup brushes from Australian brand Mermaid Salon.

The Brisbane-based brand saw their Chubby Mermaid Carve and Contour Paddle Brush become an online sensation after being reposted by major beauty Instagram accounts such as @slavetobeauty and @makeupslaves. It didn’t take long for international media to pick up on the trend and before long, the brushes became a sell-out success. Fanny Barlow, the brains behind the brushes, says that she’s been working day and night to keep up with demand.
‘I’ve actually paid extra to have them rush produced because I only had a couple of hundred at first and they sold out in six minutes and I just freaked out and texted my manufacturer straight away,’ she told Vogue. ‘I had another batch quickly made and I probably sold an extra two or three thousand. I can’t believe it.’

The brushes have proved so popular that they are currently on pre-order for the fifth time! Which is pretty impressive considering Barlow originally created them as just a ‘little add-on’ to give to customers at her salon.

Whether mermaids are your thing or not, it’s always great to see an Aussie brand take the world by storm. You can jump on the waitlist for the brushes at mermaidsalon.com.au, where they’re priced at $16. If you get in real quick you might even be able to snag the silver colour, which is currently in stock on the website.
For a more traditional contour brush, beautyheaven loves the M.A.C Large Angled Contour Brush 168 or the Real Techniques Rose Gold Flat Contour Brush for a bit of shine, minus mermaid tail.

I really like the look of the black one more so than the metallic ones.

Don't really like the look of them and they wouldn't be very practical to use.

Ummm... not sure about this!!!! They don't appeal to me at all, and I can imagine the "fishy" smell even across the screen!

Haha, I have never heard of these before, but they look like nice quality brushes and I do like the theme! Can't believe the level of consumer hype though :)

I've come back to this article to have another look! I love how they come in different metallic colours - that would be handy to know which is used for what product - like one for bronzer, one for contouring, one for foundation..............

They are gorgeous - congrats to Mermaid salon - love it when Aussie Brands take the market. Such a great idea to bring character to an otherwise boring brush.

Oh, they look like dead fish to me. Apparently ebay is full of them selling for couple of bucks all over the place =/
People like 'novelty', we will see if they preform

I think they're really cute - I'm not sure how easy they would be to use but they get full points for their novelty value.
