How much are our makeup bags actually worth?

Have you ever thought to yourself…'How much is my makeup bag actually worth?'. After a friend of mine lost her makeup bag and was telling me about the horror, and painstaking price of having to replace every last item it got me thinking about the cost of my own makeup collection. My stash includes so many great budget buys but then also some higher end products, it really got me thinking.. how much is the price tag really when you add everything up?!
I tallied up all of the products in my makeup bag along with bh’s Sophie, Rosie and Ellie to find out just how much our makeup bags actually cost!

Steph

Most affordable products: OPTREX Refreshing Eye Drops ($6.99), Maybelline New York Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner ($15.95) and Burt’s Bees Gloss Lip Crayon ($16.95).
Most expensive products: Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury 8 Brush Set ($125), Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Clay Palette ($69) and M.A.C Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation ($56).
Total items: 23 products
Total cost: $955.87
Steph says: I was a little blown away when I saw just how much my beloved makeup bag is actually worth! It is full of my most-favourite, holy grail products that I use on a daily basis or for a full face. Once I find a great, reliable product that works for me I have the habit of repurchasing it over and over as I know the value is worth the cost.
Ellie
Most affordable products: Blistex Intensive Repair ($5.95), NYX Cosmetics Eyeshadow Base ($12.95), and The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid ($14).
Most expensive products: BYREDO Bal D’Afrique Roll on Oil ($81), IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ ($61) and Estée Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Camouflage Makeup for Face and Body SPF 15 ($58).
Total items: 35 products
Total cost: $1197.60
Ellie says: I can’t believe my makeup bag cost that much! I thought as I have more affordable brands that there was no way it could be that high, but I realised as I carry a bit more in there it tallies up fast. I like to mix affordable products with more expensive ones to give myself more choice.
Rosie
Most affordable products: Blistex Lip Conditioner SPF 15 ($4.95), Manicare Eyelash Curler ($13.99) and Eyelure Brow Pencil ($14.99).
Most expensive products: Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush ($77), M.A.C Brant Brothers 4 Pillars Eyeshadow Quad ($72), and Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish Powder Foundation ($69).
Total items: 19 products
Total cost: $797.92
Rosie says: I’m not surprised mine was the cheapest as I’m quite selective with my products and these are my go-to heros. I only carry one of each type of product as I know they’re reliable rather than rotating between a few.
Sophie
Most affordable products: PONi Cosmetics Zebra Clear Brow Gel ($26) and Real Techniques Blush Brush ($24.99) and Beautyblender Micro Mini($27).
Most expensive products: Colorescience All Calm Colour Correcting Makeup Primer ($158), Venustus lumiere & nuit perfume ($99) and Charlotte Tilbury The Golden Goddess Luxury Palette ($80).
Total items: 22 products
Total cost: $1129.94
Sophie says: I was shocked to see my primer was the most expensive product in my makeup bag collection! All of these products make me feel my best so are worth the cost.

This is eye opening, and interesting to see everyone's budget and high end products. Mine would be worth a surprising and scary amount too, but it doesn't really leave my bathroom, so it's fairly safe!

Wouldn't dare to think about mine lol - not to mention skincare! And the cost of replacing them when they run out or go off! Yikes. D:

This is such a fun article - I’d love to see more of these! As for my own makeup bag....I would hate to add it up...let alone calculate the cost of my makeup shelf!

I have no idea how much mine is worth but im sure its out of control....BUT I must say that I am very lucky and a lot of the products that I use are ones that have been gifted to me by friends. My spending budget is very low so im lucky to have some very indulgent friends that spoil me.

Most of my make up is from Clinique gift with purchase, things I've won or gifts.

OMG! I don't spend much on individual items, but I've got a LOT of everything! Umpteen red lippies, multiple eyeshadow palettes & singles. There's no way I'm even going to try to estimate.

I don't wear makeup on the daily, but if I were to tally up all the products I have in my stash, it'd be a fair amount. Luckily for me math has never been my strong point so I'm not even daring to calculate all the items haha. Calculating the cost of my skincare regime would be interesting too, but again, not even going there.

I did lose my makeup bag once - it was a major expense to have to replace everything when I didn't have much money. Everything replaced came from the supermarket except my Estee Lauder fragrance - I couldn't afford to replace that.

That is an eye opener. Whoa mine would be the same too. I would be scared to add up how much I spend on skincare and makeup every year.

It is scary to think about how much our beauty stashes are worth! I'm not game enough to tally up our skincare but perhaps next time!

Loved this article - having a good squizz into the professional's make-up bags. This past week I've been cheap - zip make-up so mine has been worth $0!! Normally though mine would be not like that. I do like to play with make-up and products a lot. I'm falling in love with the look of that primer with Spf50 in it. I can see myself buying that - looks like a fantastic product.

I only carry around powder and lip balm so that would be around $150, but I do not want to think about how much my makeup is worth!
