3 beauty tools that every woman needs in her makeup bag

Having the right beauty tools is crucial for achieving a flawless makeup look. Without the right tools in your makeup bag, it’s hard to get that perfect finish. Whether you’re a makeup beginner or an expert, there are a few essentials that every woman needs to own.

There are a lot of great beauty tools out there, but these are the unsung heroes that I swear by for an airbrushed finish, perfect concealer and expert sculpting.

To see how I use my favorite beauty tools, watch our step-by-step tutorial in the video above.

Stippling brush for an airbrushed finish

You’ve probably seen a stippling brush being used to apply foundation. It’s that wide, feathery brush that can be used to apply liquid, cream and powder products. The reason a stippling brush is so great at giving that airbrushed finish is that the bristles are two different lengths.

The longer bristles give the brush its soft texture and fan out to control the amount of product you pick up. This ensures a light application and helps you avoid a cakey finish. The shorter bristles are more tightly packed and seamlessly blend the product into the skin. The Real Techniques Stippling Brush is fantastic for applying your foundation, blush and bronzer.

Mini sponge for cleaning up and concealing

Ever noticed those tiny sponges that seem too small to use for anything? Those cute little sponges are amazing for achieving flawless concealer under your eyes. Their shape and size makes them ideal for working around the eye area.

As the name suggests, they work perfectly for easing makeup mistakes and cleaning up messy application. The Real Techniques Miracle Mini Eraser Sponge comes in a pack of two so I like to keep one for cleaning up eyeshadow fallout or flaking mascara and one for applying product to completely cover dark circles.

Tapered blush brush for expert sculpting

There are a number of brushes you could use to apply blush and bronzer, but my pick for a seamless finish is a tapered brush. The shape allows you to get right into the hollows of your cheeks, making this a must-have in my beauty kit.

The Real Techniques Rose Gold Tapered Blush Brush looks and feels so luxe. It’s weighted to give you optimal control as you work, which makes it ideal for precise application of product on your cheeks. You can also use a tapered brush for applying illuminator for a soft glow.
