Does your make-up look flawless in the morning, but not so great by the end of the day? You’re not alone. Rocking fresh make-up all day is no easy feat. Perspiration, excess oil and improper application affect how long your ‘face’ lasts. Here are six tricks for ensuring your make-up looks as good in the PM as it did when you first applied it…
#1 Take care of your skin
A good base is everything. Applying make-up to freshly cleansed, toned and moisturised skin makes the world of difference. If your make-up starts to crease or flake during the day, it may be time to invest in a rich, hydrating moisturiser. We like Sukin Rose Hip Hydrating Day Cream as it leaves skin bright, plump and radiant – and ready for make-up application.
#2 Layer, layer, layer
Along with moisturiser, you need a great primer on your side. It creates a smooth surface for make-up and can help it to stay in place. Layer Face of Australia Face Base Primer under your foundation: it fills in fine lines and wrinkles so foundation applies evenly and lasts the distance.
#3 Apply a finishing powder
To keep your make-up #flawless all day long, finish your dolling up routine with a setting powder. NYX Cosmetics Studio Finishing Powder is a translucent powder that is best worn over foundation. As well as setting your base, it helps to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles and absorb excess oil and shine.
#4 Eliminate excess oil
Many people think the best way to deal with perspiration and unwanted oil is to apply powder. Wrong! You’re just mixing oil with old make-up, and covering it with new – cue looking like a chalky mess. Instead, blot away excess oil with Swisspers Blot-Off Oil Tissues. Only once you have done this do I give you permission to apply powder. (Sorry to be so bossy.)
#5 Touch up
We’re busy women with busy lives, so it’s inevitable that the signs will show in the form of fading or smudging. There are a couple of guidelines to follow when it comes to touch-ups. Check your make-up around lunchtime, and again at the end of the day. Also, avoid re-applying liquids and stick to powder formulations. Nude by Nature Natural Mineral Cover is great as it can be applied over other make-up and doesn’t cake.
#6 Opt for longwearing formulas
Whether it’s Designer Brands Longwear 24 Hour Foundation, Mirenésse Cheeky Blush Long Wear Minerals or L’Oreal Paris Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick, use long-wearing formulas to stay fresher for longer.
