Tips on when to change your foundation for the season

As the seasons change, so do the results we want from our make-up, but when is the right time to pack up our summer foundations and switch to winter-ready foundations?
The answer? When you start to realise that your current foundation isn’t lasting as long on your skin due to the colder weather, or when you see a noticeable change in the weather.
Changing from a summer to a winter foundation is not all about changing your foundation colour or shade. However, the odds are you’ll be a little paler as your summer tan starts to fade – so it’s a great idea to have at least two foundations available, one the right shade for your tanned skin, and one a little lighter. Mixing them together can often produce just the right shade.
However, winter make-up isn’t only about changing your foundation shade. Here are our tips on what to look out for when choosing a foundation for winter:
- Swap your mattifying foundation for a dewy foundation. As shine isn’t a major concern in the winter, you can embrace a more radiant glow without the fear of an oil slick.
- Choose a foundation with adequate hydration, one that will inject your skin with the moisture shot it needs. We love La Prairie Anti-Aging Foundation SPF 15 for its nourishing and protective qualities.
When do you know it's time to change your beauty regime for the season?

If I keep up with my good skincare routine, I always wear same type of BB-cream/light foundation: nourishing, hydrating and glow finish. My skin colour on the face is same all year trough, golden/yellow based

My skin colour does change with the seasons. It's something I had to come to terms with early on in life. There are two clear indicators for me: when I have to use more bronzer or darker powder to even out my skin tone, or if my skin feels drier/oiler than normal. That's when I will switch things up. I'm nearly at that time in the year right now. It's usually two to three times a year for my skin.

I've never thought about changing foundations, it makes sense though.

The only thing I change is in Summer when my foundation slides off within seconds. I usually give up wearing it.

I spend $80 on my foundation with young bloods foundation. I would love to try a $150 foundation as I love my foundation and think that it would be so much better for $150. Anyone tried it

Moisturizing foundations or bb cream do work extremely well during Winter.

I just make sure to moisturise thoroughly before applying my foundation. Otherwise I don't really change my routine at all.

Not necessarily an exact moment to know to change, but I guess when I can see myself get much paler in the winter months. Being Asian, my skin colour changes dramatically with sun exposure

I do not generally change foundations when the colder weather hits. I change my moisturisers to keep my skin soft and chap free. I still like to have SPF protection all year round.

the longest you should keep your foundation is one year. any longer than that might do problems to your skin. not to mention the formula of the foundation would not be the same, plus sometimes the foundation can start to smell funny.
