Shonagh in the City: day one

Shonagh in the City: day one

Oh it’s all too exciting! I’m in New York for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, courtesy of Maybelline New York. I’ve got a hectic week of shows, lab visits, parties and celeb spotting ahead of me!

It all began on Sunday when I saw the Preen by Thornton and Bregazzi Show (pictured left). The British label sent Catherine McNeil and Co. out with clean, side parted ponytails and scraped back locks, teamed with a sexy smoky cat’s eye (get a similar look with Maybelline New York Eye Studio Palette in New York Nights). The skin was dewy, almost wet, while the lips were nude and brows perfectly groomed.

No time for jet lag… Monday morning I’m off to see Tracy Reese at Bryant Park. Pretty dresses were teamed with tailored jackets sat back against fresh, clean skin and natural make-up. Maybelline New York Global Make-up Artist Charlotte Willer, spilled the beans backstage on what she used. The brand new Dream Liquid Mousse Airbrush Finish Foundation gave skin a silky soft glow. Hint: apply as you would a moisture cream, says Charlotte. “You massage it into your hands then press it into your face and neck to avoid lines and marks. It helps the formula blend beautifully. Always use your hands to blend, not a brush or sponge.”

Eyes were toasty with Eye Studio Palette in Autumn Spirit, while lips were nude, matched back to the individual model’s pout perfectly with shades from MNY’s new Color Sensational Lipstick. Stand out were the rosy, warm cheeks though, created with a dusting of MNY Mineral Power Blush.

As for the hair, it was soft, feminine and pretty with old-world curls that gave the look an entirely Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face kind of feel. It was quirky, beautiful and ever-so-romantic.

After a spot of star spotting (both the Hilton sisters, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Miss Jay from America’s Next Top Model and a scruffy looking Tara Reid) I headed down town to see Tony Maticevski. I adored the make-up! It was all nude, nude, nude with pared back brows and lashes, and clean, super-shiny locks in half ponytails, like a school girl’s.

From what I’ve seen so far, it’s all about fresh skin this Fall… silky, soft finishes and subtle lips. And as Preen proved, the smoky eye is still strong. Charlotte Willer tells us it’s fine to team it with a bright lip this year too, so get your reds out and wear the two proudly!

That’s it for today… but watch this space for a daily dose of glam goss straight from the runways of New York!
