We try: Making our own cosmetics from scratch

Ever wished you could make your own cosmetics from scratch? Think about it… your DIY makeup would be formulated to seamlessly match your skin tone and skin type. You could create the perfect lipstick shade and even add a flavour so that it tastes like raspberry sorbet. Well, in my personal pursuit for a hydrating foundation with a matte finish (this is extremely hard to find) and my very own Kimmy K nude lipstick shade, I visited The Lip Lab in Sydney to learn how to make makeup from scratch.

After an initial consultation with a Lip Lab professional, where I was asked a series of questions to help them create the ultimate formula for me, I sat back and watched them mix various colour pigments and additives (you can even add skin care elements to your foundation!) together to create my products. The result: I am now the proud owner of a matte finish foundation that doesn’t dry out my skin and a perfect Kimmy K nude lipstick which I named ‘So Dash.’
