According to the experts on NBC medical-related talk show The Doctors, the best way to identify your ideal nude lipstick is by matching it the the colour of… your nipple!

Apparently, the colour of your nipple is a great indicator of a shade that will both complement your natural skin tone and blend into your natural lip colour! As one of the doctors put it, when it comes to your skin tone, “Nature knows best!”

Renowned celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern weighed in on the ‘nip tip’, saying that matching your lip to your nip could actually make sense for finding a shade to naturally complement your skin.

“Generally, when I’m choosing a nude in a more traditional fashion, I choose a colour that is either one shade darker than my natural skin tone or one shade lighter than my natural skin tone,” Stern tells Allure. “In doing this I never feel too washed out, as the nude color on the lips doesn’t match the skin exactly. If the [lipstick] colour is too close to the skin color it can have a deadening effect.”

  1. the Nude by Nature satin liquid lipstick in ‘Natural’ (no. 03) is amazing and is definitely one of my besties when it comes to colour for a natural nude lipstick/lip colour. I love how it doesn’t even come off onto a glass/cup after it’s dried properly on my lips. Takes several minutes to dry but it’s worth it.
