Bucking the beauty trend

Every season we bring you the biggest beauty trends – all the way from hair colours and styles, right down to the shades you should be wearing on your digits. And while trends are trends for a reason, that’s not to say that they’re the be-all and end-all of what you should be doing or wearing.
So why not get a little crazy this autumn and winter and ignore the trends? Yes, ignore them. Show a little rebellion; embrace all the things you love about summer and spring and laugh in the face of the colder seasons. We guarantee you won’t get one funny look or be reprimanded once for not doing what everyone else is.
Swap your dark lipstick for something a bit brighter
A deep plum or wine-coloured lipstick is the shade du jour when the sun sets on the summer season. And it’s beautiful and sultry and all around beautiful. But if that’s not your thing, then ditch it. Go out and get your hands on a bright and sunny coral lipstick. Coral lipsticks suit almost any skin tone and will leave you feeling like those rainy days aren’t so bad.
Try: Chi Chi Viva La Diva in Bad, Bad Girl, or Bodyography Electric Lip Slide in Tickled Pink for a glossier finish!
Swap your berry nail polish for a soft pastel
I love a berry or dark purple nail colour as much as the next person, but sometimes you need something a bit softer and more colourful on your nails – especially when it’s cold and wet outside. So instead of reaching for that deep cherry red because you know that’s what you should do, grab that eye-catching pastel polish instead. Bet you’ll end up getting loads more compliments because the colour choice is so unexpected for the season!
Try: piCture pOlish in Honey Dew
Swap your fading tan for a golden glow
It’s easy to embrace the pale when it comes to autumn and winter, and we’re totally on board with that. But, sometimes you can feel like a whole new person when you’ve got slightly bronzed skin and a natural glow. Just don’t go too overboard, think a slight hint of colour, not a full-blown tan.
Try: St Tropez Wash Off Instant Glow Mousse
Tips from St Tropez’s Annie Hall: Use the Mousse with the St Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt and apply it down your leg in a zig-zag motion as it distributes the product evenly for a perfect wash of colour.
Swap rich, dark hair hues for lighter locks
The colder months seem like the perfect time to go darker and opt for rich chocolate brown hair. But it’s ok to want to go lighter for winter. In fact, we encourage it. And treating yourself to a DIY balayage is just the ticket to a wonderful winter.
Try: Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Ultimate Lightener L1++ and watch this easy-peasy how-to
Do you follow beauty trends? Or are you a rebel who likes to go against the grain?

I am only a teen so I usually don't have enough money to buy new products for a new trend but sometimes I seem to just end up falling in to the trend especially with my hair so I'm pretty lucky I guess. I'm more of an individual so I tend to go with what a feel like doing a take so inspiration from the trends.

I never follow beauty trends. I tend to wear what I feel like, although that often does correspond with what is trendy.

Loving pastel nail polish and I don't want to give it up! Though I might mix pastels and the darker colours when doing nail art.

I don't follow beauty trends too much, just usually do what I think is right for me. I would love to wear brighter colours on my lips though but I can't.

I don't follow trends. I wear what suits me and makes me feel good. I love bright colours, no matter what the season. I just don't understand so many people wearing drab grey in winter, when there is a rainbow of colours to wear that make you feel good.

I like some trends but don't feel the need to follow them all. For dark lipstick does not suit me so I don't wear it. I always tend towards lighter colours. Neutral for work and bright for weekends.
