Our Beauty Team Share Their Go-To Everyday Lipsticks

If you think lipstick is just for making a statement, then you simply haven’t found the best everyday lipstick for you. Don’t get us wrong, there’s a special time and place that requires a show-stopping red lip, but what’s the fun in saving particular beauty products just for special occasions? Ahem, Amanda Seyfried —  we’re looking at you.

With the perfect natural-looking everyday lipstick, you’ll brighten, lift and enhance your complexion. The only tricky part is finding the exact right shade for you.

To help you on your hunt, we’ve recruited a couple of lipstick connoisseurs who’ve swatched more bullets than you can possibly imagine.

So without further ado, here are six of the best everyday lipsticks, as told by our beauty team.

The everyday lipsticks our team loves…

NARS Lipstick in ‘Dolce Vita’

What’s to love? “This lipstick is just about the only product that has remained a constant in my makeup bag over the last decade. The ultimate ‘something but nothing’, this mauve, glossy and hydrating lipstick will brighten your entire face and that is no word of a lie. I’m a serial non-finisher of products and this is something that I constantly finish and repurchase. If you want to love yourself sick, give this lipstick a swipe.” – Ruby Cotton, beautyheaven’s Content Producer

Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lipstick in ‘Velvet Affair’

What’s to love? “As someone who has chronically dry lips but loves a matte lipstick, Lisa Eldridge’s True Velvet Lipstick is a god send. It glides on like butter, is long-lasting and the shade ‘Velvet Affair’ is the perfect nude for my olive skin tone. However, one of the biggest selling points for me is how hydrating it is. Even after a full day’s wear, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable and I’ve never had it seep into the fine lines on my lips.” – Basmah Qazi, BEAUTYDIRECTORY’s Editor

Fenty Beauty Slip Shine Sheer Shiny in ‘Cookies and Cocoa’

What’s to love? “I’m a huge fan of a glossy lip so I’ve steered clear of lipstick for the most part. But the Fenty Beauty Slip Shine has become a handbag staple for me. It’s the perfect combo of a lipstick, lip balm and gloss, and gives the most gorgeous shine without feeling sticky. The sheer coverage is perfect for everyday wear or layering over a matte lip (something I’m learning to embrace) for added shine — no dryness or flaking in sight.” – Georgia Nelson, beautyheaven’s Beauty and Social Editor

CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE VELVET Luminous Matte Lip Colour in ‘Libre’

What’s to love? “I’m a self-professed lip gloss girl, but when I do wear lipstick I tend to opt for matte formulas. Chanel’s Luminous Matte Lip Colour in ‘Libre’ is the perfect pinky-nude to me. It’s a peachy, brown blend that leans a little coral (depending on your skin tone). The only thing I don’t love about it is the price, which is why I’ve been using RARE BEAUTY Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream in ‘Kindness’ ($35, Sephora) while I save up for my next bullet.” – Briar Clark, beautyheaven’s Content Producer

$65 at David Jones

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in ‘Grape Pop’

What’s to love? “Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer has been my go-to for years. I originally got it as a sample when I was in high school and had no money in the bank and I fell in love instantly. It works as a lipstick and primer, with lasting colour as well as keeping my lips moisturised. My go-to colour is ‘Grape Pop’. It suits all my makeup looks and I’m always reaching for it in my handbag.” – Scarlett Barnes, BEAUTYDIRECTORY’s Content Producer

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in ‘Pillow Talk’

What’s to love? “I know this one is hyped a lot but considering it permanently lives in my handbag and everyday makeup kit, I’d be lying if I picked any other. I actually do wear lipstick every day that I wear makeup (I think it’s a PTSD thing from the concealer lips era) and this one is my ideal nude. It works regardless of whether I’m going for a natural makeup look or defined eyes on a night out. The amount of times I’ve tried another colour only to wipe it off and pop this on is ridiculous. My ride or die.” – Samantha McMeekin, beautyheaven’s Editor

  1. No don’t think I have tried any of the lipsticks above. My current go-to lipstick is the Elizabeth Arden one I got to trial from bh. It’s a nude and it’s so creamy.

  2. I have stuck with the same lipstick brands for years (mainly Revlon because of the great quality at such a low price). Reading this article makes me want give other brands a try.

  3. If I were wearing makeup everyday, I’d probably go with either the Goddess Lipstick in Venus Pink from Eye of Horus, or Dusty Rose from Nude by Nature (although that one *can* veer a liiiiittle into cadaver territory for me).

  4. I like Nude lipsticks. My fav which is almost finished up is Maybelline & I have replaced it with Natio which I am yet to try.
I also keep a Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm in handbag at all times.
