After much anticipation and a soft launch last month, Amazon has officialy launched in Australia! Luckily, the launch has come just in time for our last minute christmas shopping.

So why is it such a big deal for beauty?

According to News.com.au, economist Steven Levitt said that Amazon is great for Australian consumers. “In the US, the combination of Amazon and Walmart, those two are incredibly efficient and brutal competitors, which as a consequence leads to very low prices combined with great service for customers, which makes customers go in droves,” he said.

Let’s be honest, beauty isn’t always the cheapest thing to stock up on. So these competitively low prices are great for us. Plus, you can head to different categories (like makeup or hair care) and see the best selling products in that section. You can then narrow it down even further to the bestselling lip makeup products, hair styling products and so on.

Right now, on the US Amazon (which does ship some items to Australia) there is a neutral eyeshadow palette, loose face powder and mascara all in the top five selling makeup products. Each of them is under $10 and has over 1500 reviews. The best selling hair curling wand on the US Amazon costs $20 and the bestseller in the makeup brushes and tools category is a 14 piece brush set for $14. Can you see why we’re excited to have deals like this down under?

Amazon Australia’s beauty category already seems to be quite expansive, with over 9000 items from brands like Armani, Max Factor, COVERGIRL, Palmer’s and Aveda. And we’ve already spotted some steals: a 32 piece, DRQ Professional Makeup Brush Set for $15.99 and a Red Earth Nature’s Child Duo Eye Colour for under $4. Plus, the delivery seems to be a big selling point for Amazon Australia. There’s free delivery on all orders over $49 and a one-day priority delivery service for $9.99 available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.

Sounds like it’s time to get shopping, beauties…

  1. If you don’t know, it’s private sellers or companies that list their prices on Amazon. The site itself doesn’t spend money buying the goods or transporting them, so there’s no overpricing.

As a result, you can buy a smartphone at half the price. Or cool sneakers, games for children, the quality of which will be at a high level. Pay attention to the seller. Several people or companies can sell a product. You only need to choose one of them, guided by the price and rating on the site (it is put by customers themselves).
