Just wing it baby

Want to know how to create the perfect winged eyeliner look (we’re talking uber sexy, not OTT Amy Winehouse)?
Believe it or not, it’s as simple as having a steady hand and following five easy steps…

Essential tool kit

 – Liquid/gel eyeliner

Splurge on:Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner

Save with:Rimmel London Professional Liquid Eye Liner

 – Angled brush

Splurge on:MAC 263 Small Angle Brush

Save with: Manicare Angled Brush

Step-by-step guide

1.) Start with a clean eye, devoid of any product, or make-up remover residue.

2.) Looking straight on into a mirror, imagine that there is a line extending from the outer corner of your top lash line, all the way to your temple. This will be the angle of the line you’ll draw to create your ‘wing’.

3.) Using your chosen liner and brush, carefully define your upper lash line, working from the inner corner of your eye, outwards. The line should increase in thickness so that the finest point is at the inner corner of your eye, and the thickest point is at the ‘wing’.

Tip: start with a thin, delicate line, and once you’re happy with the overall shape, go over it with your liner to increase thickness and intensity of colour.

4.) Once you reach the outer corner of your lash line, angle your brush in the direction of your imagined line, and carefully glide the colour in that direction. Use your brush to take that extended line back towards the outer corner of your eye, creating a narrow triangle, or ‘airplane wing’.

Tip: Your ‘wing’ can be as short or as long, and as dainty or as heavy as you’d like, depending on how dramatic you’d prefer your overall look.

5.) Repeat on the opposite eye. Once your eyes are done, stand back and look in the mirror, as there may be slight differences in your peepers that you’ll want to go back and perfect.

Tip: if you make a mistake, don’t re-do your entire eye. Simply dip a cotton bud into some eye make-up remover and gently erase any imperfections that way.
