When I think of beauty, I think in colour. It’s always a red lipstick, a pink nail polish, or a mauve eye shadow.
But one of the colours that rarely comes to mind is grey.
Perhaps it’s because it’s more of a shade than a colour, or because its more commonly associated with hair ageing, but grey beauty products is one thing I’ve never really explored – until now.
As it turns out, this colour can actually produce some pretty spectacular and flattering beauty looks.
#1 Smoky eye
If you usually steer clear of a smoky eye for the fear of looking like a panda, I urge you to replace the dark blacks of a traditional smoky eye with different shades grey. The softer shade is excellent for creating a smoky look; simply begin with a dark grey on the outer corners and work your way inwards, using lighter shades of grey as you go. You can also alternate grey with a navy blue eyeshadow for a touch of colour.

#2 Nail polish
Despite what you may be thinking, grey nail polish is far from boring. It’s sophisticated enough to wear to work, but playful enough to go with any lipstick colour or outfit. Choose a dark grey for when you’re feeling moody and a light grey with a bright lip for when you’re feeling fresh and carefree.

#3 Eyeliner
Black isn’t the only option for defining the eyes. In fact, for those with fair or ageing skin, black eyeliner can sometimes do more harm than good. Grey eyeliner is a lot less harsh than black and can define the eyes without making them look smaller or drawing attention to under eye bags. Not convinced? You can try it out using a grey eyeshadow and angle brush before you commit. Start off lightly and build colour only as you need it. You may find your eyes look a lot bigger and more awake.

#4 Hair
Who says grey hairs always have to be covered up? Take a look at Lou Teasdale, stylist for famous band One Direction and Fudge Urban Global Brand Ambassador. She’s managed to turn what’s normally considered as a sign of ageing, into a glorious mane of silver locks. The trick is to keep the hair as shiny and bright as possible, so that it looks metallic instead of dull and dreary.
