How-to: Julianne Moore’s Cannes red carpet look

Julianne Moore gives new meaning to the title ‘eternal beauty’. At 52 years of age, she looks impeccable. But her youthful glow isn’t the result of plastic surgery; it’s the result of taking care of her skin (and her hair, for that matter), and using suitable make-up products in hues that complement her.

That said, it’s no wonder the L’Oréal Paris ambassador took to the red carpet for the Cannes Film Festival’s Opening Ceremony and premiere of The Great Gatsby looking absolutely impeccable. Her hair was glossy and swept to the side, her eyes were smouldering, and her mauve lip ever so subtly matched her lilac frock.

But what struck me about this hair and make-up look – beside it’s obvious perfection – is its timelessness. I mean, it truly is also suitable for all ages – not just those in their 50s. It works for those in their 20s; those in their 30s; and of course, those in their 40s. And that’s precisely why you’ll need these how-to tips when you add this flawless hair and make-up combo to your wardrobe of beauty looks…

To recreate the make-up…

On the face… To prevent your skin looking cakey (and to allow the odd freckle to show through), opt for a sheer, luminous foundation like Mineralogie Liquid Hydration Sheer Tint, and give your cheeks a healthy rosy glow using L’Oreal Paris True Match Blush in Sandalwood Pink.

On the eyes… Take a mauve eyeshadow like MeMeMe Eye Inspire Trio Collection in Elegant Eyes and apply it across both eyelids. This will soften the intensity of the black eyeliner, and enhance the lip colour too. Then, take a gel eyeliner like L’Oreal Paris SuperLiner Gel Liner in Black and draw a thick line close to the lash line, flicking out ever-so-slightly at the end. Finish off the eyes with a flutter-inducing mascara like L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara in Black.

On the lips… You’ll want something with a little bit of sheen, a little bit of shimmer, and a little bit of colour. We love L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nutri Shine in Rose Guava because it ticks all of those boxes and more.

To recreate the hair…

On the roots… To mimic the shiny, frizz-free finish of Julianne’s strands, wash your locks with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner like Sexy Silky Hair Silky Shampoo LITE and Conditioner LITE. Once towel-dried, apply a body boosting mousse, which will help give your hair some hold.

Through the lengths… To hide any rouge split ends and frizziness, apply a small amount of L’Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil through the mid-lengths and ends of wet hair, and an even tinier bit on the ends only once you’ve finished blow-drying.

Heat styling tips… To get that delightful flick at the ends of your hair without using curlers, use a vent brush when styling. (Don’t know what a vent brush is? Find out here…) Wrap the lengths of your hair around the brush, concentrating the nozzle and heat close to the brush. After 10 to 15 seconds on each section, gently release your hair and allow it to cool, before smoothing the soft waves with your fingers.

What do you think of Julianne Moore’s ageless beauty look? Are you coveting her shiny auburn strands and smouldering make-up? Will you be copying this celebrity red carpet look?
