It may sound simple but it takes more than simply slickin’ on your favourite shade to get lasting power from your lipstick. Chechel Joson, International Max Factor Make-up Artist, who’s currently working on Project Runway, explains it’s all about the prep…
1. Exfoliate the lips. You can use a face exfoliator or lightly ‘brush’ your lips with your toothbrush to remove dry skin.
2. Moisturise with a lip balm.
3. If you have dry lips, choose a lipstick that has moisturising properties. A creamy-textured lipstick, not a matte, will work best for dry lips.
4. Once you have prepared your lips, the colour will glide on smoothly.
5. If your lip colour is strong, lightly apply the colour on your lip. If you want more colour, you can always intensify by building the product.
6. For day wear, I use Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick in Bewitching Coral or Max Factor Colour Perfection Lipstick in Berry or Rosey by lightly dabbing the colour on your lips and spreading it with your fingers to get that natural finish. This creates a more natural nonchalant finish.
7. For nighttime, intensify the color by putting on at least two layers of lipstick.
8. Always be careful you don’t go beyond your natural lip line. Intense lip colour makes any mistakes much more visible. Using a clean make-up sponge, lightly erase any colours that may have gone outside your natural lip line.
