Get the look: dazzling daytime

Get the look: dazzling daytime

For donkey’s years we’ve taken daytime make-up to mean neutral shades teamed with a dollop of pretty simplicity. It wasn’t until I clapped eyes on the Derek Lam SS 2012 New York show that I realised there was a whole lot more that could be done, without seeming too OTT…

With a sumptuous mix of creamy neutrals and show stopping metallics, I knew this look (by Tom Pecheux for Estée Lauder) was well worth mimicking. Here’s how you can get the look at home…

  • -Start with a fresh base. The lighter the coverage the better, but a matte finish is preferred. Dusting a little Estée Lauder Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder over your skin will help to achieve that complexion perfection.
  • -Next, choose a warm, muted terracotta blush to lighten and sculpt your cheekbones. Apply underneath your cheekbones and sweep it over the apples of your cheeks.
  • -For your eyes, ensure you use a medium brown shade from the crease of your eyelid up to your brow bone. (This will make your metallic shade seem even brighter). Then, apply Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Shadow Cremé in Ivory Lace over your whole eyelid, and around the inner corner of your eye. The bright white colour will make your eyes the focal point of the whole look.
  • -Add a few lashings of mascara to your upper eyelashes. An off-black colour works best for a natural, daytime feel. Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara in Extreme Copper was used in this look (it launches in Feb 2012!)
  • -To finish, slick your lips with a glossy nude lip hue and you’re good to go!
