Products that work better together

Some things in life just work better when they’re together. Like ice cream and cookie dough; Ryan Gosling movies and a night with the girls; Posh and Becks. And the same goes for certain beauty products, too. Shampoo and conditioner; cleanser and toner; toothpaste and floss – all great products in their own right, but even better when used together, right? So which other beauty buys work harder, faster and better in a pair? Here are our pick of the products that produce enhanced results when used as a duo…
Lancôme Super Serums and Teint Visionnaire
Prepping your skin before you apply your foundation is the best way to guarantee a smooth-looking, long lasting result. And if age fighting is on your product checklist, then you’ll definitely need to add these goodies to your beauty kit. Used individually, Lancôme’s newest ‘Super Serums’ – Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate and Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector – will work to over time to minimise lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and improve skin texture and clarity. But used in conjunction, the benefits are boosted to provide accelerated, visible anti-ageing results in just one week! So you can only imagine how awesome your skin will look if you first prep with the Super Serums, and then apply Teint Visionnaire – Lancôme’s latest make-up must-have that incorporates all the advanced skin correcting technology of the Visionnaire serum into a long lasting, natural-looking, flawless-face-achieving foundation. Phew! There’s no doubt you’ll be putting your best face forward with this combo!
Jo Malone Cologne and matching Body Crème
While moisturising your skin with a yummy-smelling lotion is great in terms of hydration, the scent will fade shortly after application. Likewise, perfume is fabulous for, well, perfuming your skin, but it does pretty much nothing in terms of keeping you moisturised. Plus, it too fades over time. However, pairing your perfume with a matching body moisturiser – now that’s an ingenious idea! Not only will your skin stay hydrated, but the scent of the lotion will also work with your perfume to provide a subtle fragrance that lingers for longer. Jo Malone fragrances are designed to be layered over one another – using the other fragrances and/or the matching body creams – so you can use the products in conjunction to intensify a particular perfume, or to create a unique scent combination of your own. Now that’s what we call a signature scent!
Lash curler and mascara
Never used a lash curler before? Boy, are you missing a trick. I literally won’t leave the house without curling my lashes – even when I don’t wear any make-up, it’s the one step I don’t forfeit. Why? Well, as you curl your lashes you help to push them upwards from the root, giving the appearance of longer, beautifully fanned-out lashes, which in turn opens up your eyes, making your entire face look more alive. Sounds pretty spectacular, right? It is. And trust me when I say it’s even better when you complement your curled lashes with a coat of mascara. It accentuates your already-elongated lashes, makes them look thicker, glossier and more luscious in general. It really does give them that ‘wow’ factor! Try: Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($40, www.davidjones.com.au) together with one of my newest fave mascaras, Maybelline New York Volum’ Express Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara.

nah. i've heard of curling eyelashes before mascara though. i normally just curl my lashes and walk out the door. mascara makes my eyelashes look too long and unnatural

There is so much hype surrounding Lancome's super serums! I love using Visionnaire serum, however, have not used it in conjunction with Genifique.

I used to think curling your lashes didn't make a difference but these days its so set into my makeup routine that I do it even when I don't really need to. Also, I would so love to try out a Lancome serum! I think I'll have a look into that.

Lash curler and mascara - of course these should always be used together. And I've always been a fan of layering scents. I'm still trying to decide if the Lancome serums used together is a marketing ploy, but I did try the new Teint Visionnaire, and it is amazing.

i love curling my lashes prior to applying mascara- they do really open up my eyes and make my lashes look longer. primer and foundation are also two things that go well together, blush and bronzer, lipliner and lipstick,

Definitely agree with the curling your lashes before mascara, it's a must do! Without curling my straight lashes, mascara does nothing but weigh them down. Curling them really makes my lashes look lovely and long!

I always like to pair my serum and moisturiser with the same brand. It does seem to be more effective for me.
