Makeup Setting Spray

Hi Beauties,
I’ve been having a look at a few different makeup setting sprays online, debating which one I should try first. I’ve heard good things about both Gerard Cosmetics setting spray and BYS but there is a notable price difference between the two. I know setting sprays can be really hit and miss so my question for you ladies is – have you tried a setting spray? What did you think of it? And, did it work?
Thanks!

Madusas Makeup setting spray is awesome. The only downside is that it comes in such a little bottle. But the quality makes up for that. It is worth every cent. It is vegan and cruelty free, as all of their products are and you can purchase it on Afterpay from The Little Vegan Makeup Shop. Be one less person harming animals.

I use the Mario Badescu Herbal spray as a setting spray. I can’t remember exactly what it’s called but it is pink liquid and only $9 for the small bottle from Mecca. It’s amazing and so refreshing. I used it everyday on a fresh face too!

I have not tried a range of setting sprays simply because my Urban Decay Setting Spray does the trick!! It is a little on the pricier side but it works wonders. My makeup literally stays on all day and night! I have converted my friends and we all wear it whilst clubbing and it does a good job. It has a fine spray and a few sprays will do you fine. Doesn’t change your foundation or anything!

I heard great things about Nyx makeup setting spray. I got myself one and quite like it.

I love the Designer Brands setting spray. It is only 10 dollars (although I have got both of mine for free through beatorium and a competition I won). Whenever I wear it my make up lasts, I used it a lot in the summer and my makeup lasted the whole day (despite humid conditions). I can notice a clear difference between my makeup on the days when I use a spray and when I don’t.

  • So I find quality makeup setting sprays cost quite a lot of money so I have an everyday one and a special occasion one. However in saying this, I could never live without them now. I have dry skin and so this just helps to give my look some life and reduces the foundation setting into dry spots on my face.

So at the moment I am using the Australis Setting Spray for an everyday look and after I finish this I plan on trying the Rimmel London one which I have heard nothing but good things about (it also doubles as a primer!).

For special occasions I use the Urban Decay Cool and Hydrating spray but I also have a travel size in the Long Lasting and this is excellent also for when I away (only due to the fact that it comes in a smaller size than the other).

The other thing I love about setting spray as it works well for all skin types. It is easy to apply (especially after a few turns). I spritz the t zone first and then finish off with a couple of sprays on each cheek.

    I hope this helps!

      Hi,

I picked up the rimmel London Insta setting spray on a whim after posting this forum topic. I was actually a little disappointed as it doesn`t seem to make my makeup last that much longer, and I`m not a huge fan of the spray nozzle.

I think it`s a great idea to have one for everyday and one for special occasions though, I`ve heard great things about the urban decay setting spray that you and others have recommended and I would love to give that one a try.

      Thanks for the advice 🙂

The only one I’ve ever noticed a difference with in terms of makeup longevity is the Skindinavia ones. I love the one for dry skin. The other sprays just act more like ‘toner sprays’ that sort of moisturise your skin a little and take away some of the powderyness.

I alternate between the NYX Makeup Setting Spray in the dewy finish (also comes in matte) and the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray.

Both are great, the Urban Decay just feels that little bit nicer as it has a finer spray, but both are very similar – the NYX is still very good for its price, so is great for everyday use.

I love setting sprays as I have dry skin, and I much prefer setting my face with a dewy finish setting spray, as I can get that dewy finish I’m looking for and feel like my face is both set and comfortable without the need for a powder.

If you like matte, you can still get matte setting sprays if that’s your preference.

The spray nozzle needs to be able to dispense the perfect wide fine mist. The formula needs to be the perfect in-between of sticky enough so your makeup stays, but not so sticky so that it feels awful on the skin.

Try a different product or brand if you’re unhappy with the results. I believe they work. I recently tried the Fix and Go spray by Rimmel, but it did nothing flash in my opinion, it just wet my face and the nozzle wasn’t the best as it sprayed in more of a direct line.

…an extra tip would be to save the bottles of the pumps/nozzles you do like, so that you can decant the contents of a different product with worse for wear packaging to test if it`s the formula or the packaging for products you`re not sure if you like.

The Urban Decay All Nighter has a fantastic fine mist, so I normally give last chances to setting sprays/mist toners that I`m not sure I like in that bottle.

I have tried the makeup forever setting spray in small version from Sephora and quite liked it. It gives me a dewy finish and helps my makeup last longer too.
Havent tried others but you could give this a try. I believe its $18 from Sephora and sells pretty well too.

Thank you for the suggestion Erum, I will see if I can get my hands on it 🙂
