Ada Nicodemou Declares This $28 Foundation To Be “Just As Good” As Her Usual $100 Fave

Following on from Celeste Barber and Turia Pitt, Ada Nicodemou has been the latest Aussie starlet to join MCoBeauty’s #BSFreeBeauty makeup tutorial series. The “luxe-for-less” Instagram video took us through Ada’s red carpet beauty look using some of her under $30 faves, including the bargain UltraStay Flawless Foundation ($28, Woolworths) that Ada declares is “just as good” as her usual $105 luxe pick…

“I’m a Giorgio Armarni foundation fan, I’ve been using it for 10-15 years” Ada revealed, speaking of the Luminous Silk Foundation. However, it seems the budget buy can do a similar job in a pinch. The actress gave it her red carpet tick of approval and it’s said the long-wear budget buy will provide up to 16 hours of coverage.

But for those of us who aren’t doing regular red carpet appearances, this natural formula is also a suitable day-to-day choice for oilier skin types. “If you’ve got oily skin, it’s good because it is matte,” said Ada. “You don’t get too shiny”.

Reflecting on her 21 years playing Home and Away’s Leah Patterson, Ada also noted in the video how her own personal beauty style has evolved side-by-side with her TV persona.

“Leah [used to have] really cakey foundation and heaps of eyeshadow,” she said. “Throughout the years, makeup has gotten a lot more natural and we like to see our skin”.

To complement her natural, dewy base, Ada dabbed on a cream blush and lightly contoured her cheeks, as she joked: “This is going to make me look thinner”. As for her eyes, she reached for MCo Beauty’s Burgundy/Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (which is currently half price at Woolies for $7.50): “I love red and burgundys at the moment, I think that’s really in”.

To tie the look together, Ada applied a tubular mascara to successfully avoid “fall out and panda eyes”. These types of smudge-free formulas are also a long-standing favourite of Zoe Foster Blake.

Some of our top picks include the CLINIQUE Lash Power Mascara ($40, Myer) and the L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes Excess Mascara ($14.99, Chemist Warehouse).

And there you have it, Ada’s red carpet glam for less. Watch the full video, here.

  1. Ada Nicodemou has a lovely complexion and the MC Beauty $28 UltraStay Flawless Foundation it really is flawless Ada looks beautiful. Will need to try the UltraStay Foundation myself.

  2. No, I don’t believe I’ve tried any MCo beauty products. Foundation is a hard thing to purchase without testing in store and it looks like BigW is the only place that is bricks and mortar that would have testers available.

  3. I’ve never tried MCo Beauty’s product but I do like the sound of MCo Beauty’s Palette.
However I have just googled where MCo Beauty’s products are made. 🙁 China. Sorry I won’t be buying them.

  4. I’ve just checked out the MCoBeauty website. They have a make your own lip balm kit. OMG my nieces would go absolutely CRAZY over this! I think I might get them one.

  5. I had a look at the MCo range in Woolies yesterday. It actually looked not too bad. When I saw the Xtendlash tubing mascara, I realised I have tried it before, a long time ago, but I didn’t like it. My eyes can be very sensitive to mascara, it’s the only product I have to be fussy about.

  6. I like the colour story of the MCoBeauty eyeshadow palette. I haven’t bought it because budget eyeshadow palettes generally aren’t the best quality, but it might exceed my expectations.

  7. I have used that brand of mascara, I don’t wear much makeup and I am not too picky, it’s good to find a dupe for a pricey product though.. good on her for finding a $28 foundation as good as the $100 type.

  8. I love the MCo beauty products. They have some great stuff but some things are only out for a limited time so if you find something you love then you need to stock up just in case.
