L'Oréal Paris Base Magique Primer is a moisturiser designed to hydrate and protect skin as well as work as primer used to mask wrinkles and uneven textures in the skin before applying foundation. The formula erases fine lines and pores, and contains soft powders to help absorb sebum and mattify skin to reduce shine. Silicon oil enables easy glide-on application with no greasy residue for longer-lasting make-up.

Great on pores, don't expect miracles with wrinkles though!

L'Oreal's BaseMagiqe is designed to reduce the look of pores and fine lines and provide a smooth base under makeup. The texture is quite thick and paste-like. You rub it between your fingers to melt it and make it easier to spread. I found it took quite a bit of product to spread over my face - I'm not sure whether I was using too much or not - the instructions don't really indicate how much to use. I also applied an extra layer, patting it in the places where lines are more prevalent.

It had an immediate mattifying effect, and this, combined with the 'filler effect' made my pores far less noticeable. It provided a nice, velvety surface for my makeup. I saw a temporary improvement in my fine lines, although my deeper wrinkles were too much of a challenge!

The packaging is rather plain, and I don't find it particularly appealing. I would prefer a tube rather than a jar as I would find it easier and more hygienic to use.

I think this is a great product if you don't have too much you need to hide. It is especially effective on pores, not so much on hard-core lines though.

Awesome Primer!

Another great Primer from L'Oreal! I have found L'Oreal to make my favourite ever primers, far surpassing the effects of ones by Napoleon and even YSL. I loved the L'Oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer, and wondered how different the two products would be, given they are packaged almost identically and they pretty much look the same. I would have to say Base Magique performs slightly better than Studio Secrets in my opinion. It's far easier to apply and I never get the rub-off effect from Base Magique. It applies smoothly, gliding on and filling in pores and fine lines and wrinkles, giving me a flawless base, as promised. My makeup lasts all day and I don't get the shinies, as this little beauty absorbs oil throughout the day. A tip would be to only use a very small amount and make sure you've rubbed it in fully. This is cheaper than the Studio Secrets primer and is great value for money, since you only need to use a tiny amount each time. I love this Primer, and would highly reccommend it to other ladies. This truly is Magique!

Wow! Was rather sceptical of its claims but one try and I'm hooked.

The packing is very expensive looking and gives the impression of something special inside. The cream is very soft and I found, easy to apply. Although it suggests rubbing between your fingers, because of the summer heat we are having here in WA, I didn't find this necessary.

I moisturised my face and allowed plenty of time for it to be absorbed before I firstly applied to my nose - the pores just disappeared - Magique!

I had also had a small sunspot removed which had left a tiny, but noticeable (to me anyway) indentation, no more! The rest of my face responded just as well and I was left with a very smooth overall velvety matt finish. As the weather has been in the 40s I didn't use foundation as I usually do, but just a light dusting of mineral bronzer - perfect. It seemed to last all day too.

The next morning whilst it was cool I applied then followed with a light foundation on top, making sure to let the base "set" for several minutes first and it certainly does provide the perfect cover from which you can work.

It does everything it claims and I'm totally happy.

Any Tips?:

Creating a base for apply further foundation and make up, also by itself for a more natural look, if you want. Imagine it would be equally effective for all skin types, mine is combination.

Perfection in primer

One thing I first noticed when I picked up the product in it's box,is that I nearly dropped it because the box slid out of it's cardboard sleeve.-Which I wasn't expecting. But after that it was all good. The little jar was easy to unscrew and the product reminded me a little of Loreal's Studio Secrets Magic Perfection Base, except it appeared a lot creamier and smoother. The pale pink creme had no scent.
I applied it to my finger tips first before applying it to my face. It had an instant matt effect with no oily residue, which I was very impressed with. It also made my pores much less noticeable and other imperfections and rough textures of my face were also toned down dramatically with this product. It is not an uncomfortable product to wear, and in fact I didn't feel I was wearing anything extra on my face, except for visually.
It works extremely well as a make up base, giving a base to adhere to and hold the makeup in place for longer.

thick and nice primer

Am not sure if i really did know how to use this primer as its very thick. I followed the instructions given to roll the primer with my fingers first before applying onto my face. It's kind of thick and dry hence was skeptical about it. After the first application, I found that it does blend nicely with my foundation and lines seems to be slightly reduced however my make up still smudge after around 3hours. Am not sure if I did the application correctly. the bottle is small hence am not sure if that's going to last. It does seems to reduce the oil on my face overall. Red dots did start to develop on the left side of my chin a day after my application hence am not sure if am allergy to this product or not.

Trial Team - works wonders

Wasn't sure what to expect, have used other primers before and have mixed reviews. This L'oreal primer does what it promises, It leaves your skin with a flawless finish.

I have a few larger pores on and around my noise and never seem to get a good coverage with foundation. Using the primer, they instantly disappeared and once foundation was applied, no more pores. The texture of the primer is quite smooth, a little messy to apply as you have to rub between your fingers before applying. The first application I applied too much and ended up with a dry patch near my nose. I have since worked out the required amount...very little, just a small dab with your finger. I recommend you apply one area at a time, so you don't put too much on your skin.

The packaging is a bit of a waste, comes in a box and a cardboard sleeve both with the same info on it. Not environmentally friendly. Overall though the product looks expensive and professional, exactly what I would expect from L'oreal.

Any Tips?:

Moisturise first and wait a few minutes, it goes on easier and doesn't clog up.

Ideal For...:

everyday use, even wear it with just a bit of tranlusent powder on top for days you want coverage but don't want a full face of makeup.

Don't forget the men!!!

I was lucky enough to get my fingers on some of the product. First of all I am a man and I use Dermablend to cover up sun damage to my skin. This damage has left my skin a blotchy red colour and uneven. This makes me look older than I am and everyone thinks I have a drinking problem when in fact I don't touch a drop.

Any Tips?:

As instructed I rubbed the product gently between my fingers and applied it to the areas I use the Dermablend on - my cheeks, chin and forehead. After waiting about a minute I rubbed the Dermablend on my fingers (it needs this so that it will go on smoothly). I found instead of the Dermablend sliding on my skin unevenly the L'Oreal product enabled me to apply it easily with no uneven blotchy areas. I have never tried a primer before but this product is well worth it as normally my Dermablend would be uneven and patchy by the end of the day.

Ideal For...:

Not this time I started the day the same way I ended it. Five Stars for this product.

Excellent Primer

I thought the packaging was attractive and eye catching. L'Oreal appears to be making real inroads into the skin product lines. They are constantly introducing products that were only available under very expensive lines. I have always used an expensive primer so I was happy to find that L'Oreal had released a primer that falls under the reasonably priced offerings.

Any Tips?:

I liked the consistancy of the cream - I am 50 plus and have a combination skin when I applied this cream it gave my skin a great base for my foundation. When I applied the foundation it went on so smoothly and I noticed I did not have to use as much foundation as I normally would. It gave great coverage. L'Oreal have another great product to add to their collection.

Ideal For...:

If you have never used a primer before then try this one because it is as good if not better than most on the market. It is also reasonably priced another reason to be pleased that L'Oreal is branching out into the beauty market.

Fills in your pores completely and leaves you with a silky smooth canvas like skin to apply your foundation! I can get somewhat large pores around the sides of my nose under my eye areas in the summer time and when I apply foundation I get white-toned spots from the foundation settling into the pores ICK, this takes that horrible look away and keeps it away for the whole day!

wooo!!! love it

I have to admit when i first applied it... i didnt love it... but after someone explained how to apply it correctly and I read the "let you're skin care sink in" arti on here, it worked fabulously!! left my skin feeling silky smooth and looking so much more refined as i have large pores. happy woth my purchase!!

I don't love it.

I know that the other reviews have been glowing, and I have a sneaky suspicion that I'm not applying it correctly (despite following the instructions) but unfortunately I can't rave about this primer. Yes it is smooth and silky, but it doesn't absorb well into my skin, it sort of sits on top and cakes a little bit. I tried rubbing it between my fingers, but then it just stuck to my fingers and nothing came onto my face.

I don't know if I'm just doing it wrong, but I couldn't get this primer to sit right on my skin, so it wasn't effective for me.

Sad though, L'Oreal is my favourite drugstore/target/kmart brand.

Any Tips?:

lovely silky feel

I have a mature skin so this primer worked really well to give me a better surface to work on. Nothing worse than makie up sinking into the lines on your face because it gives you a real clown look.
Make sure you spread this on evenly . I use it as a base for Loreal tru Match mineral powder. With this base and the powder used very sparingly I have a nice even complexion without it looking like a mask

Exactly the same... As Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base? AWESOME.

I loved Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base! I remember one time at Priceline it was 2 for the price of 1, and I was worried they'd scrap the Studio Secrets line... So... Uh. I didn't eat that week.
Buuuuut it seems like my favourite primer is back! With a vengeance! In a fancy new package, which makes me think the following: OH MY GOSH THEY'RE MAKING IT A PERMANENT THING!!! AND IT'S $10 CHEAPER THAN IT USED TO BE!!!
So yes, very happy. On with the review.
I believe the Studio Secrets primer won a Glosscars prize some time back, so that should give you an idea of how awesome this stuff is. I couldn't help but try this stuff (despite my vast hoard of Studio Secrets) because I was suspicious that it was the same.
It is. =D
This is exactly the same velvety smooth mousse textured primer that BeautyHeaven seems to love so much. After blending it into your skin you will have soft, smooth and almost an air-brushed look.
This will make your foundation glide on, stay on. It wont fade off, or slip off. At the end of the day (if you have slightly oily skin like me) you will find that you are less oily overall.
This stuff is soooo much better than the likes of Smashbox and Revlon. The texture is nothing alike as well - whereas those two examples are a thin liquid - this is a firm mousse that can take some rubbing to get into the skin.

Any Tips?:

If you don't like your primers to be slippery, or to have a smell, or to have glitter, or to cause creasing under your eyes, then this is so the primer for you.
This is especially awesome for those with dry skin that can flake, as I find that it can cover up problem areas.
It's also great for oily skin, as it seems to control oil on my forehead and nose, as well as cover up large pores and unsightly blackheads.

Ideal For...:

I really can't rave enough about this product.
But I should probably raving now. Try this, I promise you, you will not regret it.

Lovely primer....

Great timing L'Oreal! If it wasn't for the Best in Beauty nomination, I might have missed this new release. The L'Oreal Studio Secrets primer is my can't-live-without fave, so I was keen to see how different this was (if at all) and whether it was the same quality (given it's a tad cheaper). First up there's the same pastel pink shade, but the formula is creamier, waxier, and doesn't seem to have the same tiny grains (that used to melt) as the SS. The finish is actually smoother (my skin felt amazingly silky) although the cream isn't as light or fluffy, and requires a little more effort to spread evenly. So far I've found it best to warm it between my fingers, and then sweep them across my face and eyelids. Glorious finish though, the same pore-filling (pollyfilla lol!) and mattifying effect, which helps diminish fine lines and prevents foundation sinkage. I think I prefer the SS one though - because this formulation is thicker, there's a tendency to apply a bit too much of the product, and consequently I don't believe the jar will last as long. But 4 star quality all the same :-)

Any Tips?:

Apply sparingly as it's very rich and concentrated...
