It’s a beautiful world, but sometimes it’s undeniably cruel. Like when your favourite UK make-up brand is torn from the shelves before you can stock up on your can’t-live-without foundation. Or a limited edition is only released in the US. Yes, it can be a cruel, heartless world.
What’s with the melancholy? This morning, I applied the last of my most beloved overseas beauty find and, despite the resulting good hair day, I’m devastated…
If you’ve also smuggled home half your body weight in Aussie Three Minute Miracle, you feel my pain. And even if you haven’t, you’ll appreciate the crushing irony: the brand’s called Aussie, it’s made from Australian native ingredients for sun-soaked Australian conditions, but if want to get your paws on it, you best jet to the US or the UK.
It’s just plain unfair. Like Helena Rubenstein Color Clone Foundation being completely unavailable here or our utter deprivation of perfect products of By Terry (as in make-up genius Terry de Gunzburg, who is credited as the inventor of YSL’s Touche Eclat), which you won’t find this side of French Sephora.
But ‘hey’, I remind myself, ‘frowning gives you wrinkles’. Our homegrown brands are internationally coveted too! Plus the past little while has given us a host of gorgeous new imports like delicious Ilcsi Organic Skincare from Hungary, ultimate French luxury via Carita, divine Italians Comfort Zone and I Nuovi,Cargo Cosmetics from Canada, Joey NY from New York and the return of quirky-cute Parisian brand Bourjois. We Antipodeans have a lot of gorgeous to get excited about.
But just that’s the exquisite agony of being a beyond-redemption beauty addict, isn’t it? No matter how many pretty products you’ve got, you always crave more. And the harder to find, the sweeter the satisfaction!
