Friday favourites

So many pretty things, so little space. If you could see me now you’d know that I’m not only wearing an exquisite SK-II cloth mask and testing three eyeliners as I type, but I’m also a disaster waiting to happen. So steeped and completely surrounded by new and shiny buys am I that if an emergency exit situation should arise, I’m toast. I’d never get out from under my glosses.

So choosing a few favourite finds of the week seems an insurmountable, almost cruel task – a little like a mother choosing her preferred child. But if I must…

Let me start with silicone. It’s not the most glamorous-sounding accomplice, I grant you, but in this sizzling-one-day, drizzling-the-next weather, it’s my hair’s new best friend. I know what you’re thinking: isn’t that the same silicone you swore off after it made your colour a catastrophe in high school? Nooooo. These new-gen silicones are tremendous sealants, trapping moisture in and locking humidity out to defy dryness and frizz in one move. And they wash out with each shampoo. I couldn’t have made it through the week respectably without them in Pantene Pro-V’s Frizz Defence Anti-Frizz Serum ($14.99). I owe them.

Now for the best skin saviours of the week: the new limited edition Ultraceuticals Travel Kits ($110 each).  Zipping an entire daily routine inside a pretty floral-print case, each kit contains four antioxidant-loaded formulas tailored to deal with acne, pigmentation or ageing, including the genius Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30+. It’s like squeezing your facialist in for your holidays. Only far more friendly on your baggage allowance…
It’s almost as good as the most magnificent news I’ve heard all week: Revlon’s highly coveted and often sold out Limited Edition Collection is going permanent. Gleeeeee! Not every excellent item in the collection is sticking around, but most of the must-haves are. Like the indispensable Just Bitten Lip Stain ($25.95) and smokingly sexy Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner ($24.95). Not to mention the Molten Metal Liquid Shadows ($23.95) and almost-too-pretty-to-use Golden Affair Sculpting Blush in Rose Rapture ($27.95). I want to collect and hoard them all so much I think I’m salivating.

In fact, I may even carve out an escape route from this desk to the closest Revlon counter right now. If only I can find which way is up…
