Make over your make-up bag with Mary Kay

A couple of weeks ago, we gave bh’s resident make-up artist, Bree, a bit of a beauty challenge: use Mary Kay products – and only Mary Kay products – for an entire working week. And to really put her skills and creativity to the test, she wasn’t allowed to wear the same look every day and she could only use the products given to her.

Bree’s Mary Kay make-up kit

CC Cream Sunscreen SPF15
Mineral Eye Color Quad (in Sandstorm, Chai Latte and Autumn Leaves)
Lash Love™ Lengthening Mascara
NouriShine Plus™ Lip Gloss in Pink Luster
Lip Liner in Clear
True Dimensions™ Lipstick (in Firecracker and Citrus Flirt)

And here’s what she came up with:

The everyday look

This was Bree’s go-to make-up look for the days she didn’t have events or meetings to go to. It was fresh and glowing, without looking too ‘make-up-y’.

She used the CC Cream to even out her complexion and add some radiance to her skin. She then used the Sandstorm quad to define her eyes. She wet an eyeliner brush and applied the darkest shade in the quad (a dark brown) to her top lash line as an eyeliner. Next, she used the lightest colour (shimmery nude) on the bottom half of her eyelid and the medium colour (bronze) in her eye contour crease to give her eyes some extra definition.

And then she got clever with the eyeshadow palette. Using the lightest colour again, Bree applied the powder to her cheekbones and brow bone to highlight those areas. Smart, huh?

She finished off the simple look with the Lash Love™ Lengthening Mascara and a slick of the NouriShine Plus™ Lip Gloss.

The I-have-to-look-really-good look

When there are meetings on the calendar, we all need to look a little more polished and put-together. Luckily, working in the beauty industry means we can glam it up a bit. So if you work in an environment where a bold lip and smoky eye is a bit much, copy this beauty look for a special occasion or night out.

Bree again started with the CC Cream, and this time, she opted for the Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte to create her smoky eye look.

Using a wet eyeliner brush, she chose the darkest colour (charcoal) and created a soft wing. Then, she took a dry brush and used the same colour in her eye contour crease and blended it together with the second darkest colour (shimmery medium grey) up to her brow bone, and coated her lashes with the Lash Love™ Lengthening Mascara. The lightest shade (nude) in the quad was used to highlight the cheeks and brow bones.

As for her lips, Bree started with the Lip Liner (to prevent any colour bleeding) before applying the True Dimensions™ Lipstick in Firecracker. She also used the tiniest amount on her cheeks as a blush. Dabbing the lipstick on her forefinger, she lightly patted the colour onto the apples of her cheeks and blended it in.

The fun Friday look

In true ‘happy Friday’ spirit, Bree decided to incorporate more colour into her shimmery, bronzed look.

Using the Autumn Leaves Eyeshadow Quad and a wet brush (to make the colours look more pigmented), Bree applied gold shade over the bottom half of her eyelids, and then used her wet eyeliner brush to apply the green shade as an eyeliner on both her top and bottom lash lines. Next, she used the burgundy shade dry in the eye contour crease and blended that with the purple eyeshadow. And lastly, she applied a coat of the Lash Love™ Lengthening Mascara.

To add to the festiveness of the look, she opted for the True Dimensions™ Lipstick in Citrus Flirt (using the lip liner again), and lightly applied the same colour to her cheeks as a blush. Who doesn’t love a multi-tasking product?!

To nail the bronzed effect, Bree used the gold eyeshadow dry on her cheeks and brow bones.

What do you think of Bree’s efforts? What kind of make-up look would you create with these Mary Kay products and shades?
