Rare finding: blue eye makeup done well
If I’m honest, I’m a little afraid of blue eyeliner. And blue eyeshadow. Actually, let’s make that a lot. It’s not that I don’t like the hue – it’s one of my favourite colours in real life, actually – it’s just I’ve seen it used in an awful manner too many times, and I often feel as though it’s a beauty trend that should’ve never clawed its way out of the 80s. Just sayin’.
But then there’s Emmy Rossum. Beautiful, fair skinned, striking Emmy Rossum, who is wearing frosty blue eyeliner and wearing it with absolute flare. In fact, she looks outstanding. But it’s not just any blue – it’s slightly frosty and metallic – which earns her many, many beauty brownie points. (Just so you know, anything with a frosty finish is very hard to pull off, even if it’s not in a blue hue. It can so easily look dated and age the wearer.)
Now, let’s talk about the shape. It’s a cat-eye – or winged – look, and the aforementioned blue eyeliner wraps around her entire eye area. And although this is a brave move by Miss Rossum, it actually does fantastic things for the Hollywood star’s eye colour. The cornflower blue hue is opposite to brown on the colour wheel, essentially making her eyes stand out all on their own. And by taking the colour all the way around the eye, she’s defined them even more so.
Emmy is rather brave when it comes to beauty (remember this glorious black and gold metallic eye look?), however she’s also smart. Really smart. Instead of going overboard and donning a bold lip or overly powerful blush, she’s kept her pout and cheeks neutral. A clear gloss and a touch of peachy blush lifts her complexion, but do not distract from her striking blue eye make-up.
