And for those who are unsure what Diwali is (also spelled Divali) – it’s a major religious festival in Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism.

The festival of lights takes place over four or five days and while celebrated differently in each household, usually involves some form of feasting, house decoration (with lights and colourful rangoli artwork) and by some traditions, cleaning of the house and wearing your best, new clothes.

It’s also a great excuse to bust out the best colours of an eyeshadow palette. Case and point, these beautifully bold Diwali beauty looks…

Pink is always a popular choice for both dress and makeup. Channel Deepica’s hot pink pout with something like M.A.C Amplified Lipstick in ‘Full Fuschia’.

Why not give green a go? The combination of gold and emerald in both jewellery and eyes ties the look together nicely, while still making way for a punchy red lip. The perfect palette for the job? Huda Beauty Obsessions Precious Stone Palette in ‘Emerald’ ($48, sephora.com.au).

Bold red lip aside, it’s the little touches in this look that make it so beautiful. From the fluffy lashes to the glittery golden eyeliner,  it’s a stunning look for any occassion really. Try it yourself by swapping your black liner for something like Ulta3 Glitter Liquid Eyeliner in ‘Gold Chains’.

No longer just an 80s trend, blue eyeshadow has come back with a vengence, and these royal blue topped lids are making us want to dive right in. Paired with a nude lip and some fierce lashes, this is a drop dead gorgeous look for Diwali. Try something like the Lancôme Hypnôse Palette in ‘Bleu Hypnotique’, using both the blue shades to create some depth and dimension.

It’s official, we’ve fallen for fushcia as hard as Jamie’s fallen for Angie on The Bachelorette. This pinky-purple eye with matching saree is next level, and will require some serious pigment to recreate. Nothing for it but Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Modern Renaissance ($76, sephora.com.au).

Yes, we’re still on the fuschia train, but this time it’s on the lips ok?! Paired with a glitter cut crease and winged eyeliner, the effort alone deserves a round of applause. For those less blessed in the steady hand department, YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture in ‘7 Le Fuschia’ will take any look from 0 to 100.

If you’re not much of a fan eyeshadow, inject some colour with your eyeliner instead. The green wing in this look is poppin’, and by tightlining the bottom lid with a black khol, attention is really drawn to the eyes. Try Chi Chi Stay On Eyeliner in ‘Feel So Good Being Bad’.
