Lashing out

Lashing out

Maybe it’s because I don’t usually wear a lot of eye make-up, but lashes really are my thing. I’ll take them tinted, curled, mascara-ed to the hilt and if you catch me when the mood is right, amplified with falsies too.

Because as far as I’m concerned, mascara maketh the woman. And along with a little lip colour and concealer, it happens to be the quickest way to transform a face.

Powerful stuff. That’s why mascara is most definitely not a one-size-fits-all product. I’d even go so far as to say true lash lovers require more than one tube, since different wands and formulas create very different effects. At a minimum, I like one mascara for ultra-natural looking lashes and another for a seriously foxy flutter.

If that sounds decadent, remember mascara is one of those beauty products that demands regular replacement for the very good reasons of hygiene and performance. So there you have it, the perfect excuse to experiment with brands, formulas and brushes. Note to self: as soon as any mascara starts to go gluggy or smells different, that’s your cue to bin it (probably somewhere between two to three months after opening).

Anyway, back to the decadence factor. Call me old-school but it’s hard to go past Benefit Bad Gal Lash for the biggest, blackest, flutter-worthy lashes around courtesy of one of the fattest, bushiest wands on the market. Meanwhile, for a barely there look my money is on L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Clean Definition with its pink flexi brush that has 168 “teeth” to lightly coat every lash without clumping.
So night and day I can be sure my lashes have it going on.

What’s your top lash trick?
