Makeup tricks to help hide your pimples

Show me a girl who’s cool with an angry little pimple on her chin/cheek/forehead and I’ll show you a liar. Sometimes, it can seem impossible to hide your pimples. Even when do attempt to cover-up a pimple with makeup, without the right technique, that zit can end up looking worse than it did before.
Those pesky little puss-filled suckers are the definition of annoying for anyone – whether you’re a teen who’s experiencing it for the first time or a woman in her 60’s who is well acquainted with breakouts.
And worse than having a pimple is trying to convince everyone that it doesn’t exist. But it is possible, just try one of these handy tricks and you’ll have everyone wondering, “What pimple?”

1) MINIMISE THE DAMAGE
Before you try covering and hiding your pimple, it’s a great idea to minimise any redness or inflammation. Ice the area for a while (10-15 minutes should do it) to reduce swelling and help flatten your pimple. Then, you can use eye drops that have been developed to reduce redness in your eyes (like Visine Clear Eye Drops) to actually help reduce the redness of your zit. Soak a cotton ball in the eye drop formula and hold it on the area for a few minutes.
2) COVER AND PROTECT
Sometimes makeup can irritate and inflame a fresh zit, so if you want that bad boy to heal stat but also want to wear makeup at the same time, a good idea is to cover it before applying your makeup. A Coverplast Blemish Dot can be applied onto your pimple and help protect and heal it – and fast – without even looking like you’re wearing anything at all.
3) THE POWER OF CONCEALER
We all know that concealer can help, erm, conceal any blemishes or redness. But it’s important to know what to use and how to use it. If your pimple is an angry, angry red, it’s important to neutralise the colour with a corrector before applying your concealer. Lightly dab a green colour corrector on the red area. Then, take your concealer and dab it onto your pimple. Try not to use a concealer that’s lighter than your skin tone on the whole area as this will bring more attention to the breakout. Australis Conceal Correct is the perfect compact for blemish concealing as it features both the green colour corrector and the concealer.
Handy tricky: if your spot is really large and raised, then a lighter concealer will actually help. A raised pimple can cast a shadow, so a lighter concealer applied on the bottom half of your zit will create an optical illusion that your pimple isn’t really that big.
4) CREATE A DISTRACTION
If you’re still not feeling great about your pimple, then you can always accentuate other features to take the attention away from it.
If your pimple is on your chin or cheeks, focus on your eye look and leave your cheeks and lips pretty neutral. Avoid glosses as this will attract attention to your lips.
If your zit is on your forehead or upper cheek, then wear an eye-catching hue on your lips so that the focus is on the lower half of your face. Clever, huh?

The best option is just use a foundation to cover it up then make sure you always use your toner, Face scrub/Wash & face cream afterwards to look after your skin. You don't stay young forever.

10-15 minutes icing a pimple? Oh goodness, I wouldn't have the patience to sit still long enough.

Haha same. I can have the occasional pimples which can come out for no reason. I use to stress over them. Not anymore, no time for that and they will heal.

Great tips. It is a total confidence breaker when you have zits and you know everyone can see them.

I was very lucky that I didn't suffer from acne, just the very small spot every now and then, so concealer always worked wonders. Great tips for those who need them.

I use the cosrx pimple patches (little hydrocolloid bandages) they work so well! I also read in a BC article that putting a bit of eyelid primer on the spot helps you to cover it up better and makes your concealer and foundation stick better - tried it and it works so much better than just concealer without the primer!

I don't get many, thankfully. Occasionally a hormonal one on my jaw line will rear its ugly head. If I stay away from dairy, I'm good. Concealing works great for me if I'm going out. If I'm home or in my studio, then no make up and good ole Clearasil clears it up pretty quickly.

Just a little light concealer, otherwise it looks too caked on

Great article - my main issue is once they are healing and super almost scabby that's when they are hardest to cover.

Using eye drops on pimples to reduce redness would be interesting but something I wouldn't try as I don't use eye drops. Creating a distraction is clever. Tip 2 reminded me of my pack of blemish dots :) I nearly forgot about them.

I like the Create a Distraction tip, I usually get breakouts on my chin so I need to ensure that I do not sport a bold lip when I get those crazy zits
