Brush up on your blush and bronzer skills

Brush up on your blush and bronzer skills

A battle I face each and every morning is my constant indecisiveness when it comes to my cheek wear. I shamefully admit that I often stand in front of my small mountain of products for a good five minutes deciding whether or not to pass up the golden bronze for the punchy peach blush. Let me tell you, it’s no mean feat.

However, recently I was given a small insight by a make-up artist friend, who explained that all face products serve a different purpose and that it’s important to decide which areas you want to showcase (or define) before you get heavy handed with make-up brushes and waaay too much product.

For the sake of this blog, I’ll cut down the explanation (but leave in all the juicy good bits.)

Blush – used to highlight and add a hint of colour to the otherwise blank canvas. Blush should actually look like you’re blushing, so should only be applied to the apples (the pinchable bits when you smile) of your cheeks in small circular motions.

Bronzer – used to sculpt and define the cheekbones, it adds another dimension to the face and should always be applied in a ‘3’ motion, starting at the brow bone, dipping in under the cheekbones, out towards your ear and back down along your chin.

Cheek tints – serve the same purpose as blush but with a little more staying power, a good choice for occasions where you won’t get the chance to touch up. Warning: practice makes perfect with these slippery suckers, so start with a small amount first, and then slowly build up your colour.
