5 ways to use a spoolie for better lashes and eyebrows

The unsung hero of the makeup world, the spoolie brush really is the missing element in your makeup routine. If you don’t own a spoolie, you’re the one who’s missing out. A spoolie is the little mascara wand-style brush that can be found on the end of many eyebrow products.
A spoolie is the ultimate Mr-Fix-It for your face and can assist you with more makeup related hiccups than you may well think. It can also help you to perfect simple makeup steps – such as applying mascara and plucking your brows.
Want to know what’s on this makeup tool’s amazing repertoire? Here are five reasons why you need a spoolie in your life…

SENSATIONAL SPOOLIE USE #1: Brushing your brows
This may seem rather obvious, but a spoolie’s principle task is to assist in the brushing of your brows and contributes to helping them look tidy and ‘in place’. Taking the time to brush through your brows with your spoolie after you’ve applied your brow powder or pencil can be the difference between looking polished or unkempt.
SENSATIONAL SPOOLIE USE #2: To help conduct a thorough plucking
Often, if your brows are a little on the wild side, it can be hard to know where to start when it comes time groom them again. Your spoolie can be used to effectively brush your brow hairs up and out of the way while you tend to the roots of the hairs and effectively remove the ones that tamper with the perfect shape of your brows.
SENSATIONAL SPOOLIE USE #3: Un-clumping your lashes
Have you ever applied a second coat of mascara and realized that you’re left with a gloopy, clumpy mess? Instead of having to remove all of your eye makeup (and mess up any other great work you may have done), you can simply use your spoolie to brush through your lashes and effectively remove any excess mascara in just a few sweeps.
SENSATIONAL SPOOLIE USE #4: To make your brow powder work harder
There are quite a few brow powders that come with a run-of-the-mill brush in which to apply them. This is fine if you don’t need your brow powders to stay put all day. But if you do, a spoolie can help to ‘work’ the brow powder into your brows and in between the hairs, keeping it there all day. Simply run your spoolie straight over your brow powder and sweep it through your brows to lock it in.
SENSATIONAL SPOOLIE USE #5: To help grow out your brows
Don’t be put off by messy brows when you’re trying to grow them out! It’s important to refrain from plucking them to ensure you achieve your desired result – no matter how hard it may be. Your spoolie is an excellent tool to both groom any overgrown hairs as well as fill in any sparse areas of your brows with brow powder. So don’t pluck, let your spoolie and your powder disguise the unruly mess! You could also try Hello Brows which encourages the growth of healthier, fuller-looking brows.

I never knew what a spoolie was until I watched a makeup tutorial and saw a girl brushing her eyebrows with what looked like a mascara wand hahaha. Great tips, a 'mascara wand' is definitely the best tool for maintaining your brows :P

I use a spoolie sometimes just for getting clumps out of my mascara. I don’t really focus on my brows (yep!) so I haven’t used it for that purpose.

I have a few of these but rarely use them (I must tidy my eyebrows stat!) and I had no idea that they were called a 'spoolie'.

I use a spoolie to brush my eyebrows. I think I brush my brows more about than my own hair!

I do have a problem with clumped up mascara at times so a spoolie would come in handy to remedy this problem.

I've never heard of a spoolie so I did a google search to find out what one looked like. I don't think I have one in my tools drawer, and I doubt whether I'd use one very often.

I'm glad most brow pencils come with a spoolie, once I use up the pencil I usually keep the spoolie for when I'm using powder/cream eyebrow products.

I apply eyebrow pencil to my brows and use a spoolie to blend the colour in. After I use "DB Extend A Brow" on my brows, I also use a spoolie afterwards to blend that in too.

Since I first commented on this article in 2013, I still keep forgetting to use my spoolie. It could be because it's so little that it's hidden within all my larger makeup brushes. I need to find a more prominent place for it.
