4 useful expert beauty tips
I’m currently in rehab. Eyebrow rehab. Yes, those extremely important strips of hair above my eyes were starting to look a little unbalanced and irregular, so I’m proactively trying to correct them. Well, the oh-so-clever Milla is trying to fix them.
Milla – full name Charmilla Herath – is an internationally trained hair, brow and make-up artist, and the owner and founder of Jet Set Go Express Beauty Bar. She’s slowly transforming my brows so they work best with my bone structure and facial features, and during my regular visits to her beauty bar, I’ve learnt a handful of insider tips and tricks that are definitely worth sharing…
4 EXPERT BEAUTY TIPS STOLEN FROM MILLA
#1. Full brows are the ultimate anti-ageing weapon.
Thicker, well-groomed brows help frame your face, add definition to your eyes and make your face appear more youthful. But there’s one more reason to own a full set of brows: as you age, your hair tends to fall out. So, if you’ve got thick, full brows to begin with, you’ll greatly increase your chances of maintaining a youthful appearance as you age.
#2. Use hair regrowth products to enhance your brows.
Not all of us are born with a naturally luscious set of brows like Lily Collins or Jessica Alba. However, there are a number of products on the market that will allow you to regrow and reshape your brows. I’ve been using REGAINE Extra Strength Topical Solution For Men (regain.com.au) on my brow area for four weeks with splendid results, and Milla has had great success with TALIKA Eyebrow Lipocils Eyebrow Enhancer ($52; meccacosmetica.com.au). Elizabeth Arden Prevage Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum also works a treat.
#3. Combat puffy eyes with painkillers.
Everyone suffers from swollen eyes – even models – which is why Milla uses this trick on photo shoots: if you're not allergic to ibuprofen, crush up a Nurofen Standard Tablet and mix it in with your eye cream to (almost) instantly de-puff your eyes. These tablets contain anti-inflammatory properties, enabling it to effectively reduce puffiness in this area.
#4. Never use a pimple concealer underneath your eyes.
The skin underneath your eyes is very delicate, and needs to be treated as such. It also lacks oil-producing glands, which means it can easily become dehydrated. Milla suggests only using eye concealers that contain oil to help moisturise the area. Blemish concealers are generally oil-free to give them extra staying power, so they’re more likely to dry out the area and cause it to become crepey.
