Why Emmy Rossum needs to darken her eyebrows

There is something wrong with Emmy Rossum’s beauty look. Really wrong. Can you spot what it is? No, it’s not her lips. They are a stunning shade of berry red, which works wonderfully well with her skin tone. No, it’s not her eye makeup. That taupe eye shadow is ingenious when it comes to adding definition to her eyes without competing at all with her bold lips. No, it’s not her hair. That is elegantly swept to the side and also exceptionally glossy, which is exactly how all brushed-out curls should be. No, it’s not her décolletage. That is highlighted in a glorious way, which defines her cleavage and makes her breasts look just that little bit bigger.

It’s her eyebrows. Yes, despite the fact they’ve been filled-in and appear to be well groomed, they’re too light. Way too light, in fact. You see, one’s brows should always be around one to two shades darker than the hair on one’s head (or 10 shades darker if you’re Gwen Stefani). The reason for this is that this enables them to fully complete their duty of framing your eyes, and adding definition to your face.

If Emmy Rossum’s brows matched her hair hue at the very least, her eyes would positively pop. This is because her brows would highlight the chocolate brown eyeliner along the outer corner of her upper and lower lash line; they would enhance the colour of her iris; they would intensify the effect of her mascara. Yes, a pair a brows can do all that.

So, what exactly is the valuable beauty lesson we can all learn from Emmy Rossum’s (albeit small) makeup mistake? If your brows are a feature on your face (read: they are well-groomed and well-shaped) always ensure their hue matches your hair colour. Better yet, make sure they are one or two shades darker. This can be achieved by strategic colour choice when it comes to brow pencils/brow shadows, or by brow tinting. The former is probably the most convenient option, but the later is long lasting and looks wonderfully natural.

Do you understand the power of a statement eyebrow? Do you think Emmy Rossum would have looked that teeny tiny bit better with a darker brow? Are your brows darker than your hair hue?
