Brow blunder

Brow blunder

Q) I have just tinted my eyebrows a dark brown but they are too dark. How can I make them less dark?

  – Kristy, WA

A) When you first colour your brows, they appear much darker than they should because the skin underneath the eyebrow hair has been dyed as well. The excess colour will disappear from the skin within 48 hours, but of course this is no comfort to someone who desperately wants the problem to immediately disappear!

The first step would be to use a soapy cleanser or even shampoo (carefully!) and scrub the eyebrow well to remove any excess dye. If this is unsuccessful, some petroleum jelly or salve scrubbed on the brows with a brow brush or even a toothbrush may help to remove some excess colour.

Use of bleach after colouring brows is not recommended and unfortunately, using make-up to cover it will only exacerbate the problem by bringing more attention to the brows. However, there are some steps you can take to detract from your brows until the colour fades:

1. Shape your brows well and curl lashes to open up the eyes

2. Wear a brighter lip and cheek colour

3. Wear more eye make-up

4. Wear long hair out to create more interest around your face
