Does your handbag weigh too much?
When it comes to my beauty regime, I like to think of myself as a ‘less is more’ kinda gal. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said when it comes to the contents of my handbag. When you factor in my wallet, phone, keys, diary, numerous pens, deodorant, lip balm, water bottle, chewing gum and assorted muesli bars, it’s really quite heavy. And as it turns out, I’m not alone.
A recent survey in Britain showed that the average women’s handbag weighs in at 5.4lbs (about 2.5 kg’s) filled with all its contents. That’s the equivalent of a small dog. And a lot of the stuff we’re touting isn’t even needed: a staggering 92 per cent of those surveyed carried at least ten items of what they would consider ‘junk’!
So even though products such as smartphones are getting smaller and lighter every year, our totes are heavier than ever. Over time, this can affect the curve of the spine, leading to chronic neck and shoulder pains, back pains and even headaches.
For many girls, a bevvy of beauty products are contributing to the weight. Thankfully, there are many multi-use products on the market to help lighten the load. A space-saving cheek and lip tint is a great example of a product that’ll help you pretty-up on the run, without the need for an entire make-up case. For a natural flush, we love Benefit Benetint and MeMeMe BoHo Balm.
Multi-use balms are also great for girls on the go. Dr. LeWinn's Multi-Moisture Multi-Use Balm can be used as a daily moisturiser, hydrating mask, lip ointment, make-up remover and soothing cuticle cream, while Bobbi Brown Beige Shimmer Brick can be used as a blush, eye shadow or highlighter/illuminator. Talk about multi-tasking!
