The celebrity makeup artist that hates contouring
Contouring has been around forever, but its popularity has skyrocketed over the past few years - which some may credit to the Kardashians’ love of the technique.
But one make-up artist isn’t a fan, and she’s spoken out about why she doesn’t like the method.
Pati Dubroff, whose client list includes Kate Bosworth and Charlize Theron, recently posted the below photo on Instagram with the caption: “Im sorry, i just dont understand this... TO EACH HIS/HER OWN, BUT THIS IS NOT FOR ME. I like a gentle contour, with shades that are harmonious with the natural skintone. #lettheskinbreathe. This is my personal opinion - if this style of makeup is your thing i hope you have a great cleanser and a great facialist.. #lessismore.”
Pati told The Cut, “I see women who are physically destroying their skin in the name of this trend.”
And we all know good skin is the key to great make-up, so we definitely get Pati’s point.
But she also explains this doesn’t mean she steers clear of contouring altogether. “When I do it, I tend to use two different foundation colours. One that is lighter to match the neck, which goes in the centre of the face — and the other, which matches the cheek. That right there already naturally brightens the centre of the face,” she explains.
So if you haven’t been able to master the heavy contouring and highlighting trend, go down Pati’s path and try subtle colour differences here and there instead.
Pati finishes her interview with The Cut with this: “I want to look in the mirror and see beauty and accept myself.”
We think she’s trying to say that make-up is great for enhancing your natural beauty, but you shouldn’t feel as though it needs to change your appearance completely. #PREACH
