Are you making these blush mistakes?
If you know how to use blush properly, it can be your best friend. But if you’re making any of the common mistakes in the video above, it has every right to be mad at you.
That’s right, it’s time for another ‘crimes against’ chapter.
In case you’re unaware of the series, it’s become bh’s Sam’s personal mission to rectify the mistreatment of beauty products (first it was lipstick, then foundation), through her ranting and raging.
Watch the video above if you dare... OR if Sam’s wrath is too much to handle, the nicer version can be found below.
BLUSH CRIME #1 Wearing the wrong shade
Not all shades of blush suit all skin tones. As a general rule, cool tones should stick to blush with pink undertones and warm tones should favour blushes with peach undertones. Find out more about which shades will suit you here.

BLUSH CRIME #2 Only applying it to the apples of your cheeks
Applying blush only to the apples of your cheeks can be very ageing. For a more youthful appearance, blend it up towards your ears, or in a specific direction according to your face shape.
BLUSH CRIME #3 Wearing a hole in your palette
Once you find the right shade of blush, you should treat your palette like a princess. Swipe your brush gently across the entire surface, rather than wearing a hole in the middle.

BLUSH CRIME #4 Too much shimmer
We’re all for strobing, but mixing your highlighter into your blush can make you look like a shiny tin man. Keep the tops of your cheekbones as your main highlighting point – not the entire cheek.
4 blushes we love:
- Arbonne Cosmetics Blush
- Rimmel London Mono Blush
- Mirenesse Marble Mineral Blush Face Powder
- Benefit CORALista

I'm guilty of wearing a hole in my blush but there's something so satisfying seeing that little bit of pan peeking through ('pan porn' I think it's called!) :p

Dusky rose, light plum and tawny blush colours suit me. At my age, I always use a matte blush and avoid any frosted ones. It 's nice to have some subtle colour on my cheeks and it completes my "makeup face".

I love peach and coral blushes a lot.. I love to see other girls wear blush where it is noticeable however could get myself to go heavy-handed on these.

I love blush. If I have a full face of makeup on, I don't feel I look complete until I have blush on. I'm guilty of having worn a hole in the middle of my blush on one or two occasions

I also tend to avoid blush i own some at the moment but just don't like how any of them look and i have various tones of blushes. I naturally have extremely red skin and i wear foundation with the main intent of hiding my redness so i don't really like adding extra red or pink to my face. I use a lot of highlighter so my face never looks 'flat' or 'ghostly' without it. I prefer not using it.

For those people not sure about blush I'd just like to suggest the blush that I swear by! I use the nude by nature blush, I have a pink undertone and pale skin and I love it, my mum has a peach undertone and medium skin and it looks good on her too! We both have the exact same one!! You don't need a lot. I forgot to put blush on the other day and I looked soo flat. Blush is essential and it gets done so wrong, these tips are very good!

Blush can look to harsh sometimes. When this happens I try to tone it down with my nude veil powder.

I've got a long, narrow face, so I've got to go easy on the blush or it accentuates the length & narrowness. I use blush very lightly if at all, & I use a tiny bit under the jawline too.

Thanks for this! I was wondering why every time I try to wear any blush (even done by pros) I look funny. I do have long narrow face too, so this may be the issue. I thought it was just in my head hehe...

Haha, yes I'm sure I've made some mistakes like these before.
As I'm more 'mature' in age now, I'm right into my cream blushers - they give a far more natural result than powder & stay out of the laughter lines too.
I especially love Clinique's Chubby Stick blushers, they're brilliant!

I am defintely guilty of swirling my brush in the centre of the pan so that it wears down there - eep!

It is astounding how frequently you see incorrectly applied blush. Bright pink. Great big circles. Not natural and subtle as it should be. Less is more.

I haven't done any of these mistakes. I was scared of blush for quite a while after seeing others make this mistakes but I now that I am using blush I can gladly say that I have not made these mistakes. Or I think that I haven't.

You need to be very careful with shimmer ones especially during the day, they really emphasise pores

I was scared of blush for ages, especially as I'm pale even a light swipe could look heavily pigmented.
