Backstage beauty report: Wayne Cooper

Backstage beauty report: Wayne Cooper

I slipped behind the seams at Wayne Cooper’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show last night to sneak a peek at what the fashion forward will be wearing next season.

Make-up director Dhav Naidu and his M.A.C. team were operating in organised chaos, transforming fresh-faced models into ultraviolet, modern-day punks, but were kind enough to let me snap a few shots and ask what they were applying where

The look

Vibe – “It’s new wave cred,” said make-up director Dhav Naidu. “It’s 80s punk-inspired, but updated. The 80s were so full-on, but this look is simple, yet concentrated and with lots of colour.”

Eyes – “These eyes are all about bold colour. I mixed most of the pigments myself and they are matte. I left a bare gap in the lid and have given them a feline flick, both to create the illusion of a really big, almond-shape. And the line of black beneath gives them that punk edge,” explains Naidu.

Skin
– Somewhere between dewy and matte, the models’ skin glowed with faint luminescence. “The skin is a satin finish with subtle sculpting,” said Naidu. “I’ve used M.A.C’s Powder Blush to create very subtle cheeks.”

Lips – Colours like Tango (dirty coral) and Immodest (bright magenta) from the new M.A.C. Mattene collection made a statement, with bold violet (try Mattene Night Violet) and Morange also looking loud. “I’m not making it too precise,” said Dhav, “but the lips are framed.” Try blotting on the lipstick with your finger and going over it with a brush.

Hair
– Models wore punky piggytails and iron-flat, asymmetric bobs charged with clip-in hairpieces in hot magenta, purple and chartreuse.
