The fashion pack got a mid-winter fix at yesterday’s David Jones Spring/Summer 2014 fashion show. The ‘Extraordinary Frontier’ runway theme showcased cutouts and slits and midriffs, but it was was the romantic, wild and wind-swept hair and make-up that got us excited.

Terri Robertson-Kirkwood styled hair for Aveda, and it was all about feminine grit and waves that were undone and touchable. International chief make-up artist Yuji Asano created make-up looks for Shu Uemura that were inspired by French Riviera meeting 60s poolside glamour.

The first look was inspired by Bridget Bardot with a focus on the eyes and thick, natural-looking lashes. “It is a subtle smoky eye, which has been rimmed with eyeshadow, featuring a beautiful natural lash on the top lashes,” says Yuji. “The skin is glowing, luminous and translucent.”
For the hair, Terri was inspired by the girl who “looks like she has just gotten off her horse.” The ponytail is loose and well worn, and “there is a very strong shape and texture to it.”

The second look was inspired by 60s model Twiggy with an angelic twist. Skin was natural and glowy, with a soft, pinched cheek. “The top lash line is slightly rimmed, but instead of putting lashes on the top, they are on the bottom lashes, opening up the eye,” says Yuji.
“For this look, we wanted something smooth and fresh, something you would wear on a holiday in the sun,” says Terri. This was achieved by using the Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight to keep hair smooth while blow drying, resulting in a soft-to-touch style.
