4 brilliant beauty looks

Isn’t make-up a great way to dress ourselves up and be whoever we want to be for a day? It’s awesome how a swipe of red lipstick may as well plant a stamp saying ‘confident’ on your forehead, while a larger-than-average flutter can see you morph into the flirt you always wanted to be, but couldn’t because you didn’t quite have the courage.

It seems there were a few celebrities who embraced the kind of beauty they wanted to be at the premiere of Mortal Instruments City of Bones in California recently. Four big-name celebrities graced the red carpet, each with a seriously dashing, yet completely different make-up look. I realised that these women were trying to channel a character, an alter ego that would instill a bit of confidence or a degree of innocence into their look. It was genius.

Discover how you can pinch cues from these four beauty looks in order to channel the kind of person you want to be for a day…

PRETTY PLAYFUL A LA BELLA THORNE

In an attempt to look sweet and playful, Bella knocked it out of the park with this make-up look. Her look spells ‘party’, with a creamy, matte make-up base, jet-black fluttery lashes and a pink pout that’d stop traffic. She teams all of that with a schoolgirl side braid and slightly tonged, disheveled fringe pieces. In this look, Bella looks pretty and confident, mixed with an element of youthfulness and innocence. It’s a no-brainer when you don’t want to go ‘too sexy’, but still want to get people’s attention.

Australis Matte Up Foundation
Eylure Pre-Glued Lashes 117
Designer Brands Moisturising Lipstick in Party Pink

BAREFACED SOPHISTICATION A LA JULIANNE HOUGH

Julianne has pulled off every look under the sun. She’s done bold lips, shimmery eyes, coral cheeks and everything in between. Her surge of movie roles in the last few years proves how many different characters she can play, but it’s not until now that we’ve seen the sophisticated, fresh-faced version of Julianne Hough – and I have to say, she’s nailed it. Despite her brows being a little too deep in colour, I think Jules got it right by keeping her eye make-up to a minimum. She opted for a glimmer of gold on the inner corners of her eyes and a few lashings of jet-black mascara. She kept it fairly neutral on her face, with a slightly coral blush and a warm nude apricot lip colour. This look (especially her nude, shadow-free eyes) allows her baby blues to pop, pop, pop!

Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in Blonde
Bourjois Little Round Blush Pot in Ambre D’or
Chi Chi Metallic Eyeshadow Stick in Gold

SULTRY AND SEXY A LA ASHLEY GREENE

We all know a smoky eye is the definition of sultry. Ashley Greene knows this too. She also knows that pairing a smoky eye with a nude lip only makes the work you’ve done on your eyes more prominent and your sexy, smoldering stare all the more eye-catching. Pardon the pun. Ashley also chose well when she opted to team this ravishing make-up look with poker straight strands. She’s ready for a Saturday night out on the town – and quite frankly, we’d be happy to look half as luscious as she does any day of the week.

Ashley’s beauty hit list:

Max Factor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow in Onyx Smoke
Glameyes Fashion Lashes in Jessica
Nude by Nature Lipstick in Chique

VAMPY VIXEN A LA LILY COLLINS

Dark and moody make-up is something Lily Collins was made for. Her desire to channel a darker character is made easier thanks to her brilliant brown eyes and dark locks. A blood-red pout is a sure fire way to grab attention and showcase a more seductive side. A side that may not get much airtime without a confidence-boosting make-up look that helps you to channel the kind of poised-yet-minxy character you’ve been longing to expose. Lily also stayed away from bronzer and opted for a sculpting blush, groomed her brows so that they resembled an on-trend Cara Delevingne-style breadth and wasn’t worried about going too heavy on the mascara. These things are all essential for a fierce look.

Lily’s beauty hit list:

Natio Brow Kit
ModelCo FIBRE LASH
Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in #22
